Three young scientists nominated for "Outstanding Young Vietnamese Faces 2024"

On February 20, the Central Youth Union and the Vietnam Young Talent Support Fund announced a list of 19 nominees for the title "Outstanding Young Vietnamese Faces". In the field of Scientific Research, there were 3 scientists on the nomination list: Dr. Pham Huy Hieu, Dr. Nguyen Viet Huong, Dr. Le Kim Hung.

They are the authors of dozens of scientific articles published in international journals; have many patents and highly applicable products, contributing to socio-economic development.

Dr. Pham Huy Hieu , 33 years old, is currently a lecturer at the Institute of Computer Science and Engineering; a research expert and Deputy Director of the VinUni-Illinois Smart Health Center, Director of the Startup Center (E-lab), VinUni University. Last year, he was the youngest person to be honored in the Golden Globe Science and Technology Award (awarded by the Central Youth Union and the Ministry of Science and Technology).

Dr. Pham Huy Hieu has also published 50 scientific articles in prestigious international journals and conferences, including 20 scientific articles in Q1 journals and 06 top Rank A/A* conference articles in the fields of artificial intelligence, computer vision and smart medicine.

In addition, he has many technology solutions to solve Vietnam's medical challenges such as "VinDr medical imaging diagnostic software based on artificial intelligence technology", which effectively supports doctors in cancer screening and detecting incurable diseases. This solution has been deployed in more than 40 hospitals across the country and handles more than 300,000 patients per month and is evaluated by doctors as helping to reduce errors and support screening.

Dr. Le Kim Hung, 35 years old, is currently working at the University of Information Technology, Vietnam National University - Ho Chi Minh City. He won the Golden Globe Science and Technology Award in 2024 and owns 2 international patents.

At the same time, he has a work "Research on adaptive sampling algorithms for devices in large-scale Internet of Things" that can be widely applied in smart agriculture, smart cities or environmental monitoring. The work was published in IEEE Access magazine in 2020 (Q1, H-index: 242, IF: 3.4, main author) and patented in France in 2021.

He is the author of many scientific articles published in international scientific journals: 06 articles in the Q1 category (main author); 03 articles in the Q2 category (main author); 22 scientific reports published in full text in the proceedings of international seminars/conferences (19 articles as main author).

In addition, he also presided over a ministerial-level project that was accepted and met requirements; had 1 textbook published by a prestigious publishing house; and 1 training book chapter published by a prestigious publishing house in the world.

Dr. Nguyen Viet Huong (from Can Loc, Ha Tinh); is currently Deputy Head of the Faculty of Materials Science and Engineering, Phenikaa University (Hanoi).

He won the 2024 Golden Globe Science and Technology Award; has an international patent for "Development of Atmospheric Pressure Monolayer Deposition (SALD) Technology". This research applies nano-thin films in optoelectronic components, gas sensors, solar cells, storage batteries, and protective coatings. In particular, being self-sufficient in developing high-tech equipment systems for nano-thin film deposition not only saves billions of VND compared to importing commercial equipment but also opens up great opportunities for new research directions and training.

At the same time, he is the main author of 32 scientific articles published in international scientific journals in the Q1 category (11 articles as the main author); 7 scientific articles published in international scientific journals in the Q2 category (2 articles as the main author); 1 scientific article published in a domestic scientific journal (main author).

In addition, he has 1 ministerial-level scientific research topic or equivalent that has been accepted and met requirements (chair); 2 reference books published by prestigious publishing houses (co-author); 1 reference book chapter published by prestigious publishing houses (main author); won 2 international outstanding scientific research awards.

Journalist Phung Cong Suong - Editor-in-Chief of Tien Phong Newspaper, Director of the Vietnam Young Talent Support Fund, Standing Member of the Council for the 2024 Outstanding Young Vietnamese Faces Award said that in 2024, the Organizing Committee received 159 nominations from 55 units nationwide, including 3 self-nominated nominations. In terms of structure, there were 114 men, 45 women; Kinh ethnic group: 144, ethnic minorities: 15. Of which, the field of Study had the most nominations (38 nominations); the field of State Administrative Management had the least nominations (1 nomination).

Some fields have many outstanding faces, with outstanding achievements, such as the fields of Study, Scientific Research, Culture and Arts, Sports... In particular, in the field of Study alone, 10 students have won the Second Class Labor Medal, and won Gold Medals in international Olympic competitions; in the field of Scientific Research - Innovation, many young researchers have dozens of scientific articles published in prestigious international scientific journals, own international patents, have made breakthrough announcements in fields such as smart medicine, agricultural technology, environment, sustainable development, won the Golden Globe Award, Khue Van Cac...
