Linking tours, travel routes and special tourism products

Accordingly, although Can Tho city tourism has had many positive changes and achieved positive results in recent times, the city's tourism industry still faces many challenges. Notably, the city's tourism industry has its own policies to attract and encourage investors and tourist attractions to expand their scale as well as improve the quality of services for tourists.

In addition, human resources have not met the current tourism development needs after a long period of being affected by the Covid-19 pandemic, and the quality of trained workers is also uneven. In management units, training facilities, and travel agencies, the rate of trained workers is 100%; but the rate of trained workers in tourist areas and spots is only 26.1% - the lowest in the industry. In gardens, homestays, and tourist areas, most of them are self-managed by families, and the staff are mainly unskilled workers who have not been trained or have received training in tourism skills.

Some tourist destinations are still spontaneous, without a model of organization and management; business registration and business conditions for each field are not suitable, tourism products do not really have highlights, specific tourism products have not been invested in and exploited clearly but are only based on existing actual needs, not attracting large investors to create a difference.

Besides, the application of technology as well as digital transformation in tourism development is still limited and not synchronized, leading to an imbalance in some places, affecting the psychology of tourists and local tourism managers.

In addition, the investment capital for tourism product development in localities is still too little, mainly household businesses, low investment capital, people are not bold enough to invest in technical facilities to serve tourists, overloaded during peak season. Some localities have monotonous, overlapping tourism products, unprofessional, small scale, and products are not strong enough to create highlights to attract tourists.

There is no synchronous coordination between departments and branches to have priority policies for tourism development, especially the traffic infrastructure of many roads restricting large-tonnage vehicles, the wharves are not qualified to accommodate large-tonnage cruise ships, and the river routes are not qualified to exploit tourism.

Not to mention, environmental sanitation in some localities and tourist destinations is still limited, there is no place to treat wastewater, collect garbage, which spoils the aesthetics and landscape of the environment in the eyes of tourists. Security, order, food hygiene and safety in some establishments are not guaranteed because they are mainly done manually, there is no plan to treat waste and the landscape is not good, not meeting the requirements of sustainable tourism development.

In particular, the work of linking and connecting between localities in the city and provinces and cities in the region and in the cluster is only at a relatively moderate level, mainly promoting and participating in events, while the work of connecting and linking to build tourism products has not really been focused on, leading to unsynchronized development and undiversified tourism products.

6 important solutions

From the above reality, the Deputy Director of the Tourism Development Center - Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Can Tho City proposed 6 solutions to develop typical tourism products of Can Tho City, including:

Early research and development of resolutions to support local tourism development, with many policies to attract investors to invest in the tourism sector to create differences in tourism products.

Connect training facilities, contribute to building a training framework suitable for the tourism needs of the region, avoid the situation of having too many teachers and not enough workers, contributing to improving the quality of service in tourism development of localities.

Building connecting channels linking typical tourism products of localities, each locality has a specific product to extend the time tourists spend and increase the diversity of tourism products in the region.

Creating a common brand and strengthening the promotion of common tourism brands for provinces and cities in tourism contributes to seeing the diversity of tourism products of localities.

Focus on exploiting local traditional values, ensuring a healthy tourism environment to create sustainable tourism development for the locality.

Continue to improve the quality of tourism services. Invest in building tourism infrastructure, upgrade the transportation system connecting localities to shorten travel time for tourists...
