Effective implementation of environmental protection coordination activities

DTO - The People's Committee of Cao Lanh district has deployed documents, directed relevant sectors and units to strengthen propaganda, coordinate dissemination and education of legal policies and new regulations on environmental protection; deployed documents guiding the assessment of environmental criteria in the construction of new rural communes and advanced new rural communes in the period of 2021 - 2025. Thereby, contributing to mobilizing people and authorities to respond to activities on World Environment Day (June 5), the Campaign to make the world cleaner, contributing to reducing plastic waste.

The District People's Committee issued Plan No. 232/KH-UBND on strengthening the management, classification, collection and treatment of plastic waste in the period of 2021 - 2025, with a vision to 2030, and integrating plastic waste classification models organized by socio-political organizations. Up to now, 41 models of "Women's groups to limit the use of plastic bags" with 1,126 members and 3,315 "Groups to turn plastic waste into money" with more than 4,900 members have been established and maintained. State management agencies, administrative units, communes and towns in the district have implemented not using products made from hard-to-decompose plastic, minimizing the use of disposable plastic products at agencies and units, in meetings, choosing to use glass and ceramic cups instead.

In addition, to classify, collect, reuse, recycle and treat plastic waste, the People's Committees of communes and towns have arranged more than 13,000 garbage bins of all kinds on the roads, in collaboration with 37 scrap purchasing facilities to collect plastic waste in the area. At the same time, 79 training and propaganda sessions were organized with the participation of more than 7,900 people, with the content of propaganda on waste classification at source, minimizing waste generation, increasing waste reuse and recycling; refusing to use single-use plastic products and hard-to-decompose plastic bags; encouraging the development and use of environmentally friendly alternative products.

In addition, the dissemination and education work to raise people's awareness of collecting household waste and classifying waste at source is regularly carried out by sectors, People's Committees of communes and towns, and socio-political organizations through the district radio system, commune and town radio stations broadcasting 2 days/week. District specialized departments have deployed propaganda on environmental protection laws, classifying waste at source in building new rural areas and advanced new rural areas in 8 classes with 656 participants. Along with that, propaganda on classifying, collecting, treating household solid waste and minimizing, reusing, and recycling plastic waste in the district in 2024 in communes and towns with more than 8,100 participants.

The organization of waste collection and treatment in craft villages in the area such as: Mat weaving village in Binh Hoa hamlet, Binh Linh hamlet and Binh Phu Loi hamlet (Binh Thanh commune), Carpet weaving and water hyacinth weaving village (My Hiep commune) and Water hyacinth handicraft weaving village in My Dong Bon hamlet (My Tho commune) are ensured, there are no activities causing environmental pollution in the craft villages. Most types of waste (leaves, water hyacinth...) are reused by households as fuel or composted as fertilizer for plants. Domestic solid waste is collected, transported and treated by Dong Thap Urban Water Supply and Environment Joint Stock Company according to regulations.

In addition, sectors and socio-political organizations have signed joint plans on coordinating propaganda and mobilizing people to comply with the provisions of the law on environmental protection in 2024. In particular, the District Women's Union deployed communication and guidance on classification, collection, treatment of household waste, and reduction of plastic waste in 7 communes: Ba Sao, Phuong Thinh, Phuong Tra, Nhi My, Tan Hoi Trung, Binh Hang Trung and My Tho with 385 participants, supporting 70 compost bins. The District Farmers' Association deployed the collection of pesticide packaging in the district, implemented the model "Farmers reuse organic household waste, agricultural by-products to create biological products for production", signed a plan to deploy the model "Green tree nursery"; Implement the model of "Garbage-free river" in communes building advanced new rural areas in 2024. With the attention of the government and the active response of the people, waste classification activities have been gradually and widely deployed, contributing to improving environmental quality in the area, preserving the green - clean - beautiful landscape.
