Firmly holding the position of the largest "rice granary" in the country

According to the General Statistics Office, winter-spring rice production in 2024 in the Mekong Delta region will reach 1,487.7 thousand hectares, an increase of 9,000 hectares compared to the previous year, with the highest average yield in the country reaching 72.3 quintals/ha, many places reaching over 8 tons/ha.

This place continues to maintain its position as the "rice granary" of the country, contributing more than 50% of output and more than 90% of rice exports. This achievement is thanks to effective production plans of farmers and local authorities.

One of the effective methods was shared by Mr. Chau Ngoc Nhan - a farmer in Kien Thanh commune, Cho Moi district, An Giang province - in the "Waking up with the golden season" trip. According to him, the important factors that create "golden seasons" include: careful soil preparation, choosing quality rice varieties and using appropriate fertilizers according to the 3 stages of rice growth: 7-10 days, 22-25 days and 42-45 days after sowing.

Mr. Nhan shared: Using NPK Ca Mau 20-10-10 will help develop roots, stems and leaves, while NPK Ca Mau 20-15-18 supports strong growth. In the final stage, fertilizing with NPK Ca Mau 18-6-18 with a high nitrogen and potassium ratio helps increase the number of grains/flower, maintain green leaves and reduce the risk of lodging. It is known that this is a high-quality product with Poly Phosphate technology suitable for a variety of crops, including rice.

In addition to proper farming methods, farmers have also applied new scientific and technical methods such as carbon emission measurement stations, alternating wet and dry sensors to manage water levels in the fields, and smart insect monitoring devices to effectively manage rice fields.

Convert and develop high-value fruit gardens

In addition to maintaining its position as the country’s largest “rice granary,” the Mekong Delta is transforming its crop structure in inefficient rice-growing areas. Under the direction of the Government and guidance from the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, this transformation has helped farmers cope with climate change and drought and salinity.

Typical crop conversion models include: Hoa Loc mango - An Giang, Tra Vinh orange and Ke Sach durian - Soc Trang,... These models are regularly introduced in the "Waking up with the golden season" buses jointly implemented by Ca Mau Fertilizer and Vietnam Television since the beginning of 2024.

Through practical sharing from successful farming models and correct knowledge from experts, people following the program can see the importance of planning, cultivating and fertilizing fruit trees properly in each stage.

The "Waking up with the golden season" bus accompanies farmers to welcome "every season is a golden season"

In the "Waking up with the golden season" bus broadcast in July 2024, people were able to visit the garden of Mr. Nguyen Dang Khoa - a farmer with more than 10 years of experience growing oranges in Tra Vinh - with Dr. Nguyen Ba Phu - a lecturer at the School of Agriculture, Can Tho University - and listen to the secrets of caring for orange trees: evaluating - measuring soil pH, fertilizing, pruning branches, harvesting standards and secrets of spreading out cultivation,...
