Dong Nai team wins big in stage 13 of Ho Chi Minh City Television Cup 2025

Stage 13 of the Ho Chi Minh City Television Cup - Ton Dong A 2025 from Quy Nhon City to Pleiku City is 166km long. And the two big passes of An Khe and Mang Yang witnessed the top tactical performance of the Le Fruit Maxxis Dong Nai team, when New Zealand racer Ethan Batt won the stage, and Nguyen Hoang Sang won the orange jersey overall.

Right from the first kilometers, the race pace was pushed up with consecutive attacks.

However, the An Giang team controlled the game well to bring the strong riders to the foot of An Khe Pass. From here, the game began to change.

A group of 10 strong riders broke away, including yellow jersey Mikhail Fokin (Loc Troi An Giang Group), Savva Novikov (Binh Minh Binh Duong Plastic), Johnny Hoogerland (HCMC - Vinama), Ethan Batt... along with Vietnamese riders such as Nguyen Hoang Sang, Tran Le Minh Tuan, Le Ngoc Son and white jersey Pham Le Xuan Loc.

On the fierce mountain pass, Savva Novikov showed impressive climbing ability when winning both An Khe and Mang Yang peaks.

However, the tactical highlight belonged to Nguyen Hoang Sang. When he was only 300m from the top of Mang Yang, he launched an attack that caused Tran Le Minh Tuan and Le Ngoc Son to fall behind, reducing the leading group to only 8 racers.

After passing the pass, the leading group - with most of the foreign riders - coordinated to accelerate at extremely high speed, creating a gap of nearly 10 minutes with the large group behind. This situation opened up a great tactical advantage for Le Fruit Maxxis Dong Nai, especially when they had two riders in the leading group.

At the finish line in Pleiku City, Ethan Batt was perfectly led by teammate Nguyen Hoang Sang, sprinting past Hoogerland, winning the stage deservedly.

More importantly, Nguyen Hoang Sang's "shake off" of his direct opponent Le Ngoc Son on Mang Yang Pass helped him win the overall orange jersey.

The achievements of both Ethan Batt and Nguyen Hoang Sang not only brought personal joy but also helped Le Fruit Maxxis Dong Nai team rise to the top of the team standings after 13 stages.

However, Mikhail Fokin still showed incredible stability when he continued to hold the yellow jersey and the red polka dot jersey after more than half the journey. Pham Le Xuan Loc still wore the white jersey in the overall rankings.

Tomorrow, April 18, the racers will continue their challenge with stage 14, 179km long, from Pleiku City to Buon Ma Thuot City, promising more drama in the windy Central Highlands race.
