Discussing solutions for Hue tourism development orientation

The workshop "Hue City Tourism Development Direction" aims to assess the current situation and propose solutions for tourism development in Hue City in the coming time. This is also an activity in response to Hue National Tourism Year - 2025.

According to the Hue City Department of Tourism, Hue is a locality with many important potentials and advantages for sustainable tourism development. Geographically, Hue plays a central role in the road, rail and air transport network along the North-South and East-West axes. This is an important factor in improving connectivity, promoting economic and cultural exchanges and creating favorable conditions for tourism development in both the present and the future.

Hue is also a place that preserves almost intact the overall architecture of a capital with many invaluable tangible and intangible heritage values. Currently, Hue has 8 heritages listed by UNESCO as world cultural heritage. There are 6 intangible cultural heritages recognized by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism as national intangible cultural heritages.

In Hue City, there are nearly 1,000 inventoried relics, of which nearly 200 have been recognized at all levels. There are hundreds of festivals with long-standing origins, containing many unique values. The locality also has a diverse system of craft villages, a rich and unique culinary culture. In addition, there are many advantages to develop community tourism, deploy smart tourism...

Currently, Hue tourism industry is developing in the direction of sustainable tourism, with the following principles: Exploiting and using resources reasonably, limiting overuse of resources and minimizing waste. Developing tourism associated with preserving diversity, in line with the overall socio-economic situation. Sharing benefits with local communities. Encouraging local community participation in tourism activities.

In recent times, along with the general development of the whole country, Hue tourism has made strong progress and achieved certain results. According to statistics, in 2024, Hue tourism welcomed nearly 3.9 million visitors, including 1.45 million international visitors. Revenue from tourism is estimated at 7,900 billion VND. The combination of tangible and intangible values ​​not only contributes to preserving Hue's cultural identity but also promotes economic - tourism development, enhancing Hue's position on the domestic and international cultural tourism map.

According to Dr. Phan Tien Dung, Chairman of the Hue City Historical Science Association, Hue is striving to become a major cultural and tourist center of Vietnam and the region. Hue culture reflects the unique depth of the land, portrayed through many unique cultural values ​​such as: cuisine, clothing, garden house architecture, education, writing, music, theater, language and poetry... These values ​​have now become great potential to build Hue into an important tourist center of Vietnam and Southeast Asia.

Participating in this workshop, delegates contributed 18 presentations revolving around two main contents: "Potential for developing Hue tourism" and "Hue tourism in sustainable development strategy". Some outstanding presentations include: Promoting cultural values ​​to build Hue city into a major national and international tourism center; Promoting the strengths of historical cities in tourism development from Hue Citadel; Developing spiritual tourism in Hue city; Hue culinary tourism: The attraction written from stories; Global tourism trends and identifying some potential customers for the Hue tourism market;...

Within the framework of the workshop, delegates also contributed opinions and clarified issues such as: Current status of exploiting cultural, historical and landscape potentials to serve Hue tourism development; Proposing solutions and lessons learned to develop Hue tourism; Providing development orientations for Hue city tourism in the coming time.

National Tourism Year - Hue 2025 has more than 160 activities. Of which, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and central agencies organize 8 activities, Hue City organizes 62 activities and provinces and cities in the country organize 102 response activities.

With a series of activities and events held during the National Tourism Year and Hue Festival 2025, Hue City expects to attract about 4.8 - 5 million tourists; of which international visitors account for about 38 - 40% of total visitors; total revenue from tourism reaches about 10,800 - 11,200 billion VND./.
