Tourism continues to be a bright spot in the country's socio-economic development.

According to the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism, in 2024, international tourists to Vietnam are estimated to reach 17.5 million, up 38.9% over the same period in 2023; domestic tourists are estimated to reach 110 million, up 1.6% over the same period in 2023. Total revenue from tourists is estimated to reach about 840 trillion VND, up 23.8% over the same period in 2023.

Achieving the above results shows that the tourism industry has successfully completed the goals set at the beginning of the year thanks to the open visa policy, the diversification and development of many potential markets along with effective promotion activities on the field and digital platforms...

Tourism continues to be a bright spot in the country's socio-economic development.

In general, over the past time, the awareness of tourism of the whole society has had positive changes. The position of the tourism industry in socio-economic development has been and is being shaped.

The growth of the industry has had a spillover effect on many other industries and fields; created economic restructuring, boosted exports, contributed to hunger eradication and poverty reduction, improved living standards, improved the appearance of urban and rural areas; and preserved and promoted national cultural values.

As a comprehensive service economic sector, with high interdisciplinary and socialization characteristics, the development of tourism in recent times has also contributed to promoting the development of other sectors and fields.

Tourism contributes to creating sustainable livelihoods, increasing income, gradually improving the quality of life for people, especially communities living in tourist areas, tourist attractions and people living in rural areas, mountainous areas, remote areas, islands participating in community tourism in many forms.

In addition, tourism also has an important position and role in environmental protection. Developing tourism in the direction of green growth, eco-tourism, forming green tourism products and services, close to nature, friendly to the environment will actively contribute to reducing greenhouse gas emissions...

Mr. Vu The Binh, Chairman of the Vietnam Tourism Association, emphasized that Vietnam's tourism industry is currently on a journey of development along with the new era, the era of national development. This is an important stage for us to consolidate our strength, together contributing to taking the country further with proud achievements. The tourism industry is no exception to this trend.

"Tourism is a comprehensive economic sector, involving many sectors, geographical areas, and diverse activities. To develop sustainably, we need a strong communication strategy, capable of engaging all sectors, regions, and communities," said Mr. Vu The Binh.

Making tourism one of the leading industries in the era of development

Although it has achieved good and proud results, the Vietnamese tourism industry still faces many challenges and concerns to help Vietnamese tourism take off and truly become the country's spearhead economic sector.

The year 2025 is of special significance in implementing and completing the socio-economic development goals according to the Resolution of the 13th National Party Congress and the 5-year socio-economic development plan for the period 2021-2025. The year 2025 is also a year with many major national holidays. The tourism industry is facing historic opportunities stemming from the interest of the entire political system and society in the driving role of tourism in the economy; the international tourist market still has a lot of room for growth under the conditions of favorable policies on visas and immigration.

In addition, Vietnam has great potential to meet new global tourism trends: sustainable tourism, responsible for the environment and society; tourists choosing less crowded destinations; shifting from "sightseeing" to "experience"; health care tourism; multi-generational family tourism; tourism with AI-designed itineraries... These trends will open up a sustainable development direction for Vietnam's tourism, both effectively exploiting existing potential and better meeting the needs of tourists in the context of strong globalization and digitalization as today.

At the Conference to evaluate the implementation of Resolution No. 08-NQ/TW dated January 16, 2017 of the Politburo on developing tourism into a spearhead economic sector and implementing the 2017 Tourism Law, Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Ho An Phong emphasized: "Looking back over the past year, the tourism industry has achieved great results, but there is still much to do ahead. The country is facing an era of growth, the Party and the State are making efforts to bring the country to wealth and prosperity. The tourism industry has favorable conditions in terms of resources, human resources... if we focus synchronously, unify awareness and action throughout the country, there is absolutely enough basis to make tourism one of the leading industries in the era of growth of the nation".

In 2025, the tourism industry strives to welcome and serve 22-23 million international tourists; 120-130 million domestic tourists. Total revenue from tourism is estimated at 980 - 1,050 trillion VND. To achieve this goal, according to Deputy Director of the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism Pham Van Thuy, tourism units need to invest more to build quality tourism products and promote tourism brands. In particular, it is necessary to focus on propaganda work to be able to complete the set goals.

Tourism businesses need to detect, synthesize opinions and make proposals and recommendations to competent state agencies at the central and local levels to resolve difficulties and problems of tourism businesses.

In addition, the tourism industry focuses on preparing and organizing events, promotional activities, and tourism promotion. Researching and developing new tourism products; innovating and improving the quality of tourism services; Promoting the development of green tourism and green destinations.

The tourism industry also needs to focus on further exploiting potential markets, strengthening links with airlines to open more direct flights, and promoting international cooperation in tourism promotion./.
