Prime Minister hopes overseas Vietnamese community in UAE will grow stronger

During a bilateral activity program in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), on the evening of December 1 (local time), in Dubai, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and his wife Le Thi Bich Tran and the Vietnamese delegation met with officials, staff of the Embassy and the Vietnamese community in the UAE.

Vietnamese Ambassador to the UAE Nguyen Manh Tuan and comments at the meeting said that the Vietnamese community in the UAE has about 5,000 people. As a new community formed about 20 years ago, people in general strive to improve, comply with the law and integrate well with the local community; always unite, help each other with the spirit of "the rich help the poor" and turn to their homeland and country, especially during the Covid-19 pandemic.

According to the Ambassador, there are more and more qualified and skilled Vietnamese workers, many Vietnamese restaurants, and many businesses owned by Vietnamese people in the UAE. Many large Vietnamese corporations are also present in this country. Currently, the Association of Vietnamese People in the UAE and the Vietnamese Business Club in the UAE are being promoted to be established.

At the meeting, Vietnamese people in the UAE expressed their joy and confidence in the increasingly strong development of the country, as well as the good and constantly fostered relationship between Vietnam and the UAE; pride in Vietnam's commitments, efforts and contributions to the world in responding to climate change; and were moved by the attention and care of the Party and State for the Vietnamese community abroad, including Vietnamese people in the UAE.

They also shared about the difficulties and advantages of working and living in the UAE; made some suggestions and recommendations with the hope of having more opportunities to contribute to their homeland, and being more confident in life, study, work and employment.

Sharing with overseas Vietnamese representatives, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh expressed his emotions and sent his warmest regards and best wishes to all compatriots living, working, studying and working in the UAE.

The Prime Minister said that the cooperation between Vietnam and the UAE has developed well in recent times. Both sides wish to deepen the relationship, making it more practical and effective. The UAE considers Vietnam an important partner in the Asia-Pacific region and wishes to strengthen cooperation with Vietnam in all fields. In particular, 2023 marks the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and the UAE.

In terms of politics and diplomacy, since the establishment of diplomatic relations in August 1993, the two sides have regularly exchanged delegations at all levels. The two countries regularly support each other at international forums and organizations.

Economically, the UAE is Vietnam's leading trade and investment partner in the Middle East, with turnover in recent years always reaching approximately 5 billion USD. In the first 10 months of 2023 alone, the total two-way trade turnover between Vietnam and the UAE is estimated to reach nearly 4 billion USD, an increase of 1.8% over the same period in 2022.

The two countries are negotiating the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) and are aiming to complete negotiations and sign the Agreement. The UAE is one of the major investors in Vietnam, with 38 foreign direct investment (FDI) projects in Vietnam with a total registered investment capital of 71.4 million USD.

The Prime Minister said that through recent exchanges, the UAE President affirmed that there are no restrictions on Vietnamese goods entering the UAE and wishes to cooperate with Vietnam to establish a Microsoft Research Center in Vietnam.

Labor cooperation is also an important area in bilateral relations as there are currently 30,000 Vietnamese workers in the UAE and the UAE wants to accept more Vietnamese workers. The Prime Minister said that it is necessary to further promote labor cooperation in the direction of focusing on both quantity and quality, attaching importance to training.

These are also the foundations for the Vietnamese community in the UAE to continue to develop in a positive direction, growing stronger, developing, and having the position and identity desired by the Party and State.

The Prime Minister said he asked the UAE to continue creating more favorable conditions for the Vietnamese community to continue living, working, integrating deeply, actively contributing to the development of the UAE as well as the friendly relations between the two countries and always looking towards the homeland and country.

The Prime Minister affirmed that "Overseas Vietnamese are an inseparable part and a resource of the Vietnamese ethnic community"; the Party and State always attach importance to consolidating and promoting the great national unity and international solidarity, caring for and supporting them to stabilize and integrate into the host society, preserve the Vietnamese language and cultural identity, and at the same time encourage and create favorable conditions for them to actively contribute to the cause of building and defending the Fatherland.

The Prime Minister requested the Embassy to well implement the Party and State's policies and guidelines for overseas Vietnamese, always do a good job of consular work, resolve legal issues for the people, carry out the simplest and most convenient procedures; grasp full information and data about the people, such as each person's address, to contact when necessary, promptly care for their material and spiritual life; continue to gather and unite the community, promote the spirit of national solidarity, international solidarity, especially when facing difficulties, calamities, "fire and darkness", build an increasingly stable and developing community, connect with the Vietnamese community in the Gulf countries, preserve national identity and homeland, educate children about their roots, maintain the Vietnamese language.

"The biggest goal of the Party and State is to build a strong and prosperous country, where people are increasingly well-off and happy, with no one left behind," the Prime Minister stated.

The Prime Minister shared, acknowledged and partially responded to the opinions, recommendations, wishes and proposals of the people; said that he would direct relevant ministries, branches and agencies to focus on reviewing, researching and soon having appropriate solutions in the spirit of openness, timeliness and thoroughness.
