The visit comes at a crucial time as both countries celebrate 70 years of diplomatic relations and at a time of significant geopolitical changes due to the Ukraine conflict. It is the first visit by an Indian Prime Minister to Poland since 1979 and is aimed at reviving bilateral ties that have seen little interaction in recent decades.

During the visit, Prime Minister Modi is expected to hold discussions with Polish leaders, including President Andrzej Duda and Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki, focusing on defence cooperation, trade and strategic alignment.

India and Poland share a strong, though underutilized, partnership, especially in the defence sector.

Earlier this year, New Delhi appointed its first Defence Attaché in Warsaw after a long hiatus.

The move underscores India's intention to strengthen defense cooperation with Poland, which is undertaking an extensive military modernisation programme.
