Prime Minister Sunak said he had briefed King Charles on the election plans at Buckingham Palace; he hoped recent good economic news would give the ruling party momentum in the general election.

According to Reuters, Mr. Sunak declared that in the coming weeks, he will “fight for every vote.” With some economic benefits such as falling inflation and the economy growing at its fastest pace in nearly 3 years, Mr. Sunak believes that now is the time to take a risk and officially present his agenda for the new term to voters.

Recent opinion polls suggest the ruling Conservative Party is likely to suffer a heavy defeat. The opposition Labour Party currently has a lead of around 20% over the ruling Conservative Party. The Conservatives are also at risk of losing votes to the Liberal Democrats and the British Reform Party.

Labour leader Keir Starmer is confident of becoming the next prime minister after a historic election defeat nearly five years ago and a chance for Labour to return to power after 14 years of unbroken Conservative rule. Starmer has said Labour will bring economic and political stability.
