In recent days, the news about the team having to leave Hang Day Stadium has been hotter than ever. Because according to the regulations of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC), in the National Championship, a stadium can only be used by a maximum of 2 teams.
At the end of 2023, AFC issued a document guiding the registration to participate in Asian club competitions from the 2024/2025 season. Accordingly, the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) and its members must comply with 6 criteria including professional standards; club licensing system; stadiums; logistics, visa and accommodation issues; sports integrity; organization of professional football tournaments.
If one of the six criteria is violated, the AFC will cut off Vietnam's direct participation in the Asian Cup at club level. Accordingly, the direct participation will be transferred to another member football federation.
In Vietnam, there are currently 3 football teams sharing Hang Day Stadium: Hanoi FC, The Cong Viettel and CAHN. According to AFC regulations, one of these 3 teams will not be allowed to register Hang Day Stadium to compete in the 2024/2025 season.
According to the latest information VOV.VN has, next week the three capital football teams will have a meeting with the Vietnam Football Federation, the professional football management unit. Here, the VFF will listen to the opinions of the clubs.
Currently, there is no decision on which team will have to leave Hang Day Stadium. The final decision on whether Hanoi FC, The Cong Viettel or CAHN will leave will belong to the Hanoi Department of Culture and Sports.
Among the three teams, Hanoi FC has the biggest mark on Hang Day Stadium. Since its establishment in 2006, Hanoi FC has taken Hang Day as its home stadium. During the competition here, Hanoi FC has invested heavily in facilities, field care, and renovations to meet competition conditions. Hang Day Stadium is also where Hanoi FC introduces the country's football talents, contributing to the national team and youth teams such as Quang Hai, Hung Dung, Duy Manh, Van Hau...
Since 2017, Hanoi T&T has been approved to change its name to Hanoi Football Club (Hanoi FC), and is assigned to manage Hang Day Stadium. Hanoi FC also represents the capital's football in youth tournaments. Hanoi FC also represents the capital's football in continental tournaments.
Meanwhile, The Cong Viettel has used Hang Day Stadium since 2018. The army team and Hanoi FC used Hang Day Stadium together before CAHN Club also used Hang Day Stadium from the 2023 season.
The final decision on which team will continue to use Hang Day Stadium will be made in the near future. However, having been associated with Hang Day Stadium for a long time, investing heavily in facilities, taking care of the pitch, renovating items and having their name associated with the place name of Hanoi, if Hanoi FC continues to be associated with Hang Day Stadium, it will not be surprising to Vietnamese football fans.
