Construction materials market in Vietnam shows signs of growth

The situation of construction material consumption in our country has many positive signals, opening up bright expectations. Specifically, according to statistics from the General Department of Vietnam Customs, the demand for imported iron and steel in September achieved a fairly good growth compared to August and the same period last year.

Specifically, in September 2023, our country imported 1.4 million tons of iron and steel (up 9.1% compared to August and up 89% compared to the same period last year).

By the end of the third quarter of this year, crude steel consumption reached over 1.7 million tons, up 11% compared to August and up 17% over the same period in 2022. For construction steel products, sales volume in September reached 958,500 tons, up 9% compared to August and up 4% over the same period in 2022, recorded as the highest increase in the past 9 months.

This is one of the good signals for construction steel products in particular and the construction materials industry in our country in general.

Experts expect the construction materials industry to have a strong recovery. In particular, this is also the time when construction projects need to be urgently completed on schedule for handover, many of which are key national projects in localities.

Accordingly, the Ministry of Transport said that to ensure the completion progress of the projects, just counting the 10 component projects from Ha Tinh to Khanh Hoa, it is expected that 18 million m3 of rock will be needed. This part of rock will be taken from 90 mines currently exploiting with a total reserve of nearly 168 million m3 (while the total exploitation capacity is only about 10.5 million m3/year).

Similarly, other construction materials such as backfill soil and sand are still in short supply and need to be expanded in untapped mines.
