After 20 years of construction and development, Thien Cam town (Cam Xuyen - Ha Tinh) has strived to become a dynamic, youthful coastal tourist city, in tune with the country's development.
Thien Cam town was established on October 3, 2003 on the basis of the entire natural area and population of Cam Long commune (old). Stretching over 14 km 2 , with a beach planned as a national key tourist area, Thien Cam has many advantages for socio-economic development, developing many industries such as: agricultural production, fishery, salt industry, seafood catching and tourism and service business.
In the early days of its transformation from a village to a city, Thien Cam town faced many difficulties and challenges in terms of both its organizational structure and socio-economic development. However, by upholding the tradition of solidarity, diligence, creativity, and upholding the spirit of self-reliance, the Party Committee of Thien Cam town quickly consolidated and improved its organizational structure, focusing on mobilizing resources to build infrastructure and develop socio-economic development.
Thien Cam Town identifies the key tasks as "developing the economy, increasing people's income"; "building urban infrastructure to gradually meet the needs of people's life and activities". To carry out the tasks, the entire political system and people promote economic restructuring, apply scientific and technological advances to production, convert crops and livestock; develop urban agricultural economic models, homestay community tourism associated with sea tourism, eco-tourism; strengthen the great national unity bloc, maintain political stability, social order and safety, ensure national defense and security...
After 20 years of growth and development, Thien Cam has become a dynamic and developing tourist town. In which, tourism and services have increasingly affirmed their role as the driving force for development. In 2003, the town's total budget revenue was only 1.2 billion VND, but by 2022 it had reached 24 billion VND (20 times higher); average income per capita reached 45 million VND/year (more than 10 times higher); the economic structure has shifted positively, the proportion of agricultural - fishery - salt production, aquaculture and tourism services has increased rapidly; the production value per hectare has increased 12 times. The total state budget capital invested in basic construction and urban construction in 20 years has reached more than 400 billion VND.

Over the past 2 decades since the town was established and 32 years since the opening of tourism activities, Thien Cam Tourist Area has grown strongly in both scale and organization. The number of tourists in 2023 is estimated at 470,000, with total revenue estimated at over 330 billion VND, creating jobs for over 500 workers. In addition, Bac Thien Cam area has been planned and invested in construction, contributing to changing the appearance, landscape and socio-economic development of the locality.

In addition to economic, cultural, educational, health, and national defense and security achievements, the Party Committee and the government have also paid attention to promoting them. The material and spiritual life of the people has gradually improved. The whole town has 2 stadiums, 17 volleyball courts, 5 clubs, and 6 cultural residential groups. The kindergarten meets national standards in phase I, and in the 2022-2023 school year, it was awarded a certificate of merit by the Ministry of Education and Training and an emulation flag by the Provincial People's Committee. The medical station maintains national standards. People's health care is given attention; national defense and security are ensured.

Implementing the Resolution of the Party Congress for the 2020-2025 term, Thien Cam town always takes care of Party building and political system building with the goal of "Effectively promoting existing potentials and advantages, gradually building Thien Cam town to soon become a civilized urban area. Socio-economic development is the central task, Party building is the key task". In 20 years, the locality has admitted 123 party members, including 7 Catholic party members. To date, Thien Cam town Party Committee has 11 party cells with 293 party members. For many consecutive years, the Party Committee has always achieved the title of clean and strong.
Thien Cam town currently has 67 fishing boats in the coastal areas and 17 offshore fishing boats (photo 1). Fishing and seafood exploitation are the main occupations of the people of Thien Cam town (photo 2). The Phu Sang fish sauce production model of Thien Cam town meets the 3-star OCOP standard (photo 3). Thien Cam town promotes the development of the seafood processing industry to increase people's income (photo 4).
Looking back at the achievements of 20 years of construction and development, the Party Committee, government and people of Thien Cam town realized that the achievements have not yet met the requirements of development. Difficulties and obstacles in mechanisms and policies have not created a breakthrough in the process of urban construction and renovation. Besides, Thien Cam has not yet effectively exploited its potential and advantages for development. The economic structure has shifted but there has been no breakthrough, the infrastructure is not yet synchronized. Tourism - services between supply and demand are still in their infancy and fragmented.

In the coming time, Thien Cam town will continue to promote the leadership role of the Party Committee and the government, mobilize the participation of the entire political system and the efforts of the people to successfully build a type IV urban area by 2024. The Party Committee, government and people of Thien Cam town will continue to make efforts to take care of building a clean and strong Party Committee and organizations in the political system; continue to connect to call for investment support, do a good job of promoting tourism to visitors from all over the country and international friends to build Thien Cam tourist area into a national key tourist area...
20 years, not a long journey, but the achievements of the Party Committee, government and people of Thien Cam town are very proud! Those achievements are proof of the efforts of the entire Party and people to realize the aspiration of making Thien Cam a bustling tourist city, increasingly rich - civilized - modern.
