The Southwest qualifying round is in full swing
On the afternoon of January 8, the opening ceremony of the Southwest region qualifying round of the 3rd Vietnam Youth Student Football Tournament - 2025 THACO Cup (TNSV THACO Cup 2025) officially took place. At Can Tho Stadium, one of the largest stadiums in the country, the atmosphere was heated up in a passionate football atmosphere when thousands of fans came to cheer on the teams.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Mr. Truong Cong Quoc Viet, Deputy Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Can Tho City, said that Can Tho City is honored to continue to be the host of the Southwest qualifying round of the THACO Cup 2025 Youth Football Tournament. The tournament is not only meaningful in the campaign "All people exercise following the example of great Uncle Ho" but also an opportunity for the city to welcome delegates and delegations to participate in the competition and visit and learn more about the land and people of Can Tho.
The Southwest qualifying round has 8 participating teams, all matches will take place at Can Tho Stadium.
According to the Deputy Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Can Tho City, the Vietnam Youth Student Football Tournament has been officially included in the annual national competition system of VFF. With high professional quality, this playground helps students have more opportunities to exchange and share experiences, aiming to improve the quality of football for Vietnamese students to confidently integrate internationally. This also helps the sports industry discover and select football talents from school to add to the national youth teams, aiming to establish a Vietnamese student football team to compete internationally in the future.

On behalf of the Organizing Committee, journalist Lam Hieu Dung, Deputy Editor-in-Chief of Thanh Nien Newspaper, Deputy Head of the Organizing Committee of the THACO Cup 2025 Youth Student Football Tournament, said that after 2 years of successful organization, the Vietnam Youth Student Football Tournament has gradually become an important sports playground, not only helping students improve their health but also creating an environment for exchange, learning, and strengthening solidarity between universities in the region and nationwide.

With that meaning, the Organizing Committee is very pleased that this year's tournament has 67 participating teams, of which 66 teams compete in the qualifying round in 6 regions (only the host team Ton Duc Thang University is allowed to go straight to the final round). In the Southwest region alone, the TNSV THACO cup 2025 has the participation of 8 teams, double the number of teams in the first season - 2023 and 2 more teams than the second season - 2024. The number of participating teams has increased, but the Southwest region only has one place in the national final round.
The matches promise to be very attractive, emotional but also tense and dramatic. In the spirit of "Playing Fairly - Winning Fairly - Cheering Fairly", journalist Lam Hieu Dung told the players of the teams: "The Vietnam Youth Student Football Tournament is an opportunity for the teams to demonstrate their talent, noble sportsmanship and solidarity. Before and after the opening ceremony, there were two matches between Cuu Long University - Dong Thap University and Can Tho University - Nam Can Tho University.
The qualifying round of the 3rd Vietnam Youth Student Football Tournament - 2025 THACO Cup has 66 participating teams, divided into 6 groups competing by geographical area from December 28, 2024 to January 18, 2025 to select 11 teams along with the host team Ton Duc Thang University to compete in the final round from March 1 to March 16, 2025 (competing in the same format as the current U.19 and U.21 tournaments). There are a total of 126 matches including 101 qualifying matches and 25 final matches. The final round will be broadcast live on national television and all qualifying matches will be livestreamed on television and digital platforms of Thanh Nien Newspaper.
Attractive prize structure: the champion team will receive a trophy, a plaque, a gold medal and a prize of 300 million VND; the runner-up team will receive a plaque, a silver medal and a prize of 150 million VND; the two third-place teams will receive a plaque, a bronze medal and a prize of 70 million VND; the style-winning team will receive a plaque and 40 million VND.
After the end of the 3rd Vietnam Youth Student Football Tournament - 2025 THACO Cup, Thanh Nien Newspaper will coordinate with VFF to organize and launch the 2025 International Youth Student Football Tournament - THACO Cup with 6 participating teams, including 4 teams from Southeast Asian universities and 2 university teams from Vietnam. The competition period is from March 24 to April 1, 2025. The prize for the champion team includes a trophy, medals, a plaque and a prize of 6,000 USD; the second place team receives a plaque and a prize of 4,000 USD; the third place team receives a plaque and a prize of 2,000 USD.
