According to the planning, Cai Mep port area (including Cai Mep Ha general and container port construction investment project) is the main port area of the international gateway and transit port, planned for ships with a tonnage of up to 250,000 DWT.
According to information from the Investment Electronic Newspaper - Baodautu.vn , Gemadept Cai Mep Port Joint Stock Company - Terminal Link (Gemalink) has just sent the Prime Minister a letter of interest and proposed a Project to invest and develop the Cai Mep Ha general and container port.
Accordingly, Gemalink affirms that it has sufficient financial capacity and experience to successfully implement the Project.
In addition to its own capital, subject to approval at the next stage, Gemalink will consider mobilizing profits from its current business operations as well as arranging capital from domestic and international credit institutions based on its business performance, stable financial health and high creditworthiness, as well as the support of its shareholders.

If selected as the investor of the Cai Mep Ha general and container port construction investment project, Gemalink said it would bring the project many outstanding competitive advantages.
Specifically, with a long-term and sustainable cooperative relationship with CMA - CGM Group, Ocean Alliance and existing customers, Gemalink can ensure cargo throughput for the Project and attract shipping lines in the alliance to Cai Mep - Thi Vai port area.
In particular, with the favorable geographical location between Cai Mep Ha general and container port and Gemalink port, the Company can optimize the efficiency of exploiting water surface and sea area, as well as optimize the exploitation efficiency of both ports through connecting the two ports into a synchronous seaport cluster.
In addition, the Company can also optimize the operations of both ports through synergy with Gemadept's integrated port and logistics ecosystem (including seaports, ICDs, maritime transport, waterway transport, road transport, logistics centers and air cargo ports) and the global network of CMA - CGM Group, contributing to the development of Cai Mep - Thi Vai port area into an international gateway and transit port area.
It is known that Gemalink is not the only major investor interested in the Cai Mep Ha general and container port construction investment project.
At the end of April 2024, the SCIC - GELEXIMCO - ITC consortium sent a document to the Prime Minister proposing to implement the Cai Mep Ha General and Container Port Construction Investment Project.
This document was signed by Mr. Vu Van Tien, General Director of GELEXIMCO on behalf of the consortium. Specifically, Mr. Vu Van Tien requested the Prime Minister to consider and approve the policy of assigning the SCIC - GELEXIMCO - ITC consortium to study and invest in the Cai Mep Ha general and container port construction investment project in Phu My town, Ba Ria - Vung Tau province.
