Lightning fast rescue of stroke patient

Việt NamViệt Nam06/11/2024

Recently, FPT Long Chau Pharmacy and Vaccination System at 366 Provincial Road 10 (Binh Tan District, Ho Chi Minh City) provided emergency care to save the life of a stroke patient.

Doctors at the vaccination center quickly treated a stroke case.

Accordingly, on the morning of October 30, Mr. PVT, 62 years old, was in critical condition and suddenly fell while walking on the road. His family intended to take him home, but Mr. T. requested to be transferred to the nearby FPT Long Chau Pharmacy and Vaccination System to receive medical assistance.

Leaders of Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health congratulated the medical staff at FPT Long Chau.

As soon as he received Mr. T.'s case, Doctor Ngo Tran Nhat Giang at the FPT Long Chau pharmacy and vaccination system, No. 366 Provincial Road 10, assessed the emergency situation, suspecting that he was having a heart attack.

At the decisive moment, Dr. Giang quickly coordinated with the nursing team, using crushed aspirin and clopidogrel, and fed Mr. T. to reduce the risk of complications. The center also urgently called an ambulance to take the patient to Cho Ray Hospital. Mr. T. was then accurately diagnosed with a heart attack, underwent stent placement, and is now out of danger.

On the morning of November 1, Ms. Nguyen Thi Minh Tam, Regional Sales Supervisor of FPT Long Chau, and Dr. Giang visited the hospital to inquire about Mr. T's health and encourage him during his recovery.

Not only this case, previously, on October 11, 2024, FPT Long Chau Pharmacy and Vaccination System, at 441 Ngo Quyen, Son Tra, Da Nang, also successfully treated a child who choked on candy on the way home from school. The child was brought to the center by his parents in a state of difficulty breathing and poor respiration.

Doctor An at the system immediately performed the Heimlich maneuver to save the baby. It is known that this method is used in cases of severe and life-threatening airway obstruction caused by foreign objects or food.

After the emergency treatment, the object was removed and the baby was able to breathe normally again. When the baby's health stabilized, the family expressed their deep gratitude to Dr. An for his timely help.

On July 6, 2024, Dr. Tran Thi Nhu Quynh, Nurse Nguyen Thi Ngan Chi and staff of the FPT Long Chau pharmacy and vaccination system at 203 3/2 Street (District 10) were also honored to be commended by the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health for their quick response, timely first aid and saving the life of a woman in anaphylactic shock at the scene due to anesthesia poisoning after a cosmetic procedure.

Proposed criteria for classifying non-prescription drugs

In the draft Circular regulating the registration of drugs and pharmaceutical ingredients, the Ministry of Health proposes criteria for classifying non-prescription drugs.

According to the regulations currently applied in Circular 07/2017/TT-BYT promulgating the List of non-prescription drugs, drugs are considered for selection into the List of non-prescription drugs when meeting the following 8 criteria:

The drug has low toxicity, during storage and when entering the human body does not create toxic decomposition products, does not have serious adverse reactions that are known or have been recommended by the World Health Organization or competent management agencies of Vietnam or foreign countries to have adverse reactions leading to one of the following consequences: Death; life-threatening; forcing the patient to be hospitalized for treatment or prolonging the patient's hospital stay;

Leaving serious or permanent sequelae for the patient; causing birth defects in the fetus; any other adverse reaction causing serious clinical consequences for the patient as assessed and determined by the medical practitioner.

The drug has a wide dosage range, is safe for all age groups, and has little effect on the diagnosis and treatment of diseases requiring clinical monitoring.

The drug is indicated in the treatment of diseases that are not serious and can be self-treated by patients, without necessarily requiring a prescription and monitoring by a medical practitioner.

Simple route of administration and dosage form that users can use themselves (mainly orally, topically) with appropriate dosage and concentration for self-treatment.

The drug rarely interacts with other drugs and common foods and drinks. The drug is less likely to cause dependence.

The drug has a low risk of being abused or misused, affecting the safety of the user. The drug has been in circulation in Vietnam for at least 5 years or more.

In the draft, the Ministry of Health proposed that drugs classified as non-prescription drugs must meet all of the following 5 criteria:

The drug must be proven to be safe and effective in preventing, alleviating or treating diseases; have a wide margin of safety to ensure the safety of the user's health; have low toxicity, and during storage and when entering the human body do not create toxic decomposition products;

no reproductive toxicity, genotoxicity or carcinogenicity no adverse effects requiring medical supervision and monitoring no interactions with commonly used drugs or foods that could lead to serious adverse reactions.

The drug is indicated for short-term treatment of non-serious diseases that can be self-treated by the patient, without necessarily requiring a prescription and monitoring by medical staff.

The drug is less likely to cause dependence; less likely to be abused or misused, affecting the safety of the user; does not conceal serious illnesses, leading to delays in diagnosis and treatment.

The drug must have a simple dosage form and route of administration that the user can use without technical support or guidance from medical staff (such as oral or topical form); there are no special requirements for storage conditions, handling of the drug before and after use; have clear labels, providing full instructions for use with warnings, precautions and information to help the user make decisions about the use of the drug.

The ingredients do not contain medicinal herbs on the List of toxic medicinal herbs issued by the Ministry of Health for herbal medicines and non-prescription traditional medicines.

Risk of emerging diseases

At the National Scientific Conference on Infectious Diseases and HIV/AIDS, experts warned about the fear of emerging epidemics.

Emerging diseases are diseases that we cannot predict. They can be nothing special but can also be pandemic diseases. Therefore, we must monitor early to see if it has the potential to cause a major pandemic. If there is a risk, we must try to control it to avoid causing huge damage.

Another risk, according to this expert, is that diseases that previously existed and we controlled well but then let them go can flare up again, which is called a re-emergence of the disease. For example, diphtheria, whooping cough, and tetanus were previously well-vaccinated, so the number of people infected was low. When vaccination is not guaranteed, outbreaks occur in localities.

In the recent epidemic, some localities recorded outbreaks of whooping cough, diphtheria, and neonatal tetanus. Doctor Nguyen Trung Cap, Deputy Director of the Central Hospital for Tropical Diseases, said that if vaccination is not well controlled, it could threaten the outbreak of more dangerous diseases such as polio.

In addition, some diseases that were not present before, but were later discovered in Vietnam, are also worth paying attention to. For example, diseases caused by fungi and parasites. When we have better resources, we must research to control them.

Changes in living environment and socio-economic conditions also create opportunities for many types of parasites to break out. Typically, the disease of roundworms in cats and dogs transmitted from pets to humans has recently increased significantly.

Accordingly, dogs and cats carry many types of parasites. If they are not regularly dewormed, parasite eggs can spread and pollute the environment. When eggs stick to the pet's fur and then we pet them and do not clean them well, they are very susceptible to infection.

In addition, parasites such as lice, bugs, and ticks on pets also inherently carry many pathogens that can infect humans.

Another behavior of people that increases the risk of parasitic infection, warned by Dr. Cap, is the habit of eating uncooked dishes (salads, rare, raw). If processed from meat or vegetables carrying parasites, the risk of infection to humans is very high.

In addition, poor waste management (maintaining toilets that discharge waste into water or wasteland) also increases the risk of spreading parasites.
