At 5 p.m. at Hanoi station, the drumbeat of the lion and dragon dance team resounded in front of the VIP room (where important people are welcomed) welcoming guests to board the SJourney train, starting the cross-Vietnam experience trip from North to South.
At VND200 million per person for 8 days and 7 nights, this is considered the most expensive train journey in Vietnam to date. As a high-end product, what tourists receive will also be very different.
The SJourney train consists of 13 carriages, which were ordered and custom-designed over a period of 2 years. Unlike traditional trains, each SJourney carriage will have 3 bedrooms, each room ranging in size from 10m2 to 13m2; including twin (double bed) and double (one bed) rooms.
With a total of 30 bedrooms, the ship can accommodate up to 60 guests per trip, welcoming about 2,000 guests per year. From the waiting room to the transfer to the ship, SJourney passengers will have their own private entrance.
The ship's interior is inspired by Indochina style, exuding luxury and antiquity.
The corridors of the train cars are carpeted and soundproofed to avoid noise. The butlers on the train will also wear their own uniforms, different from traditional train cars.
The train consists of 2 restaurant cars, each restaurant has an area of 30m2, with a bar. The two glass windows of the train are designed to help visitors enjoy their meals while admiring the majestic natural scenery on both sides of the road as the train moves.
In addition to organizing parties, the restaurant space is also a place for art performances, helping visitors have different experiences during their trip.
Unlike the Thong Nhat train which travels at 70-80km/h, the SJourney train travels quite slowly at 40-50km/h. This allows passengers to enjoy the scenery and fully experience the train.
The restaurant menu includes high-end dishes prepared by qualified chefs such as: Wagyu beef, pan-fried salmon, abalone soup, premium caviar... In addition, guests can also experience Vietnamese cuisine, local specialties, according to the theme at the train stations (Photo: Provided by the character).
The design of the bedrooms on the train will follow different themes. If the Heritage room impresses with the image of Ha Long Bay (Quang Ninh); the Harvest car will have the image of Vietnamese terraced fields, then the Bamboo room will stand out with the detail of the resilient Vietnamese bamboo tree.
The interior of the rooms is designed to optimize space. The windows are designed with curtains, right next to the tea table so that guests can enjoy the scenery in their own space while the train moves.
The ceilings of the rooms are decorated with bamboo and rattan woven by artisans from traditional Vietnamese craft villages.
The rooms on the ship are all designed to be private.
Each SJourney carriage will have its own butler, serving guests 24/7. The railway staff serving in these carriages consists of 12 people, who communicate well in English. In addition, the travel agency has 16 employees.
Of which, 10 people are serving food and drinks. This is a number that no other train in Vietnam has served like that. “VIP guests often have high demands, money is not an issue for them. What they care about is the quality of service. Before each request of the guests, we never say “no” but will always have the most suitable way to respond,” a butler on the SJourney revealed.
According to Mr. Phan Trong Thang (in the photo), CEO of SJourney, to design this special train, he and his colleagues spent a lot of time surveying high-class train routes in many places such as: France, India, Scotland...
“We are completely confident that Vietnam’s ship can compete with high-end products from other countries. In addition to the luxurious design, the ship’s itinerary also offers unique experiences, the first of its kind. Every day on board, visitors will be overwhelmed with unexpected emotions and newness,” said Mr. Thang.
The 7-day, 8-night cruise takes you through some of Vietnam’s most beautiful routes, from rolling rice paddies to pristine beaches and bustling cities. Stops in Ninh Binh, Quang Binh, Hue, Hoi An, Nha Trang and Phan Thiet all offer unique activities.
The train stops at limited major stations, but mainly at small, less-frequented stations. At the train stations, passengers will get off at various points to participate in the experience; at night, they will return to the train to spend the night and continue the journey. The schedule design ensures privacy and confidentiality for passengers (Photo: Provided by the character).
The price of 200 million VND/person includes all expenses during the trip and experiences at the stations where the train stops. In December, the SJourney train has 2 trips from Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh City and vice versa; from January 2025, the train will increase to 4 trips/month.
It is known that many guests have booked seats for 2025, even many billionaire groups booked charters (whole train trips) to organize experiential activities.
Assessing the tourism potential of luxury trains running across Vietnam, Ms. Pham Thi Anh Dao, station manager of Hanoi Railway Transport Station, shared with Dan Tri reporter that tourists are very interested in this product, especially high-end customers. The railway industry also wants to have more new products to serve many customer groups.
With the SJourney train, this is the first luxury train in Vietnam invested by PYS Travel, in cooperation with Hanoi Railway Transport Joint Stock Company, Gia Lam Railway Joint Stock Company and Vietnam Railway Corporation, with the goal of elevating railway tourism and promoting the image of Vietnam to the world.
The railway industry coordinates with operating and tourism units, making careful calculations to ensure great experiences for customers.
