( Quang Binh Portal) - On the afternoon of April 1, 2025, Comrade Tran Phong, Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, had a courtesy meeting with US Ambassador to Vietnam Marc Knapper who visited and worked in Quang Binh. Also attending the meeting were representatives of leaders of relevant departments and branches.

At the reception, US Ambassador to Vietnam Marc Knapper expressed his pleasure to visit and work in Quang Binh. The Ambassador emphasized that 2025 is the 30th anniversary of the establishment of Vietnam-US diplomatic relations, marking a historic milestone in the bilateral relationship between Vietnam and the United States. Over the years, the two sides have made efforts to resolve post-war issues such as mine clearance, searching for missing US soldiers, as well as promoting cooperation in searching for Vietnamese missing in action, and supporting Vietnamese people with disabilities. These are very important factors for the two sides to work together to promote reconciliation and enhance mutual understanding.

The Ambassador also said that previously, the US Government stopped funding the activities of mine action projects in some localities in Vietnam, however, these projects have since resumed. During his visit to Quang Binh province this time, US Ambassador Marc Knapper wanted to see how these programs and projects have been restored and are operating, and at the same time encourage those who are participating in these projects. The Ambassador also hoped that Quang Binh province would share potential areas and activities of cooperation for future cooperation. Ambassador Marc Knapper affirmed the commitment of the US Government to continue supporting Vietnam in general, and Quang Binh in particular, to resolve the consequences of war through specific activities to heal the wounds of war based on the principle of being honest with the past, together moving towards a prosperous future.

The Ambassador also said that this was his second working trip to Quang Binh province. The last time he had the opportunity to visit and offer flowers in memory of General Vo Nguyen Giap at the General's Memorial House in Le Thuy district, especially because he had met the General in 2004. Returning this time, he expressed his wish to visit the resting place of General Vo Nguyen Giap at Vung Chua - Yen Island.

Quang Binh province has received much attention and support from the US Government, Embassy, ​​agencies and organizations through funding and support for the implementation of humanitarian programs and projects, and non-refundable aid in the fields of education, health, and biodiversity conservation.

He asked the Ambassador to support the introduction of US investors to study, learn and invest in Quang Binh and continue to support the promotion of Quang Binh's image to the world as well as continue to pay attention to and support Quang Binh province in implementing programs and projects to overcome the consequences of bombs, mines and explosives left over from the war.
