Training on critical thinking and creativity in problem solving for civil servants and public employees of the Ministry of Home Affairs

In his opening speech, Associate Professor, Dr. Trieu Van Cuong, Deputy Minister of Home Affairs, said that the Ministry of Home Affairs has determined that the task of training and fostering in the current period is not only to help civil servants and public employees grasp professional knowledge, skills and expertise but also to be able to apply that knowledge and skills into practice flexibly and effectively. In addition, to meet the requirements of the current administrative reform and international integration, the issue of training and fostering public service skills for civil servants and public employees needs to have breakthrough changes, contributing to building a team of civil servants and public employees who are "both red and professional" to meet the requirements and tasks in the new situation.

Deputy Minister Trieu Van Cuong emphasized that critical and creative thinking skills are not simply the ability to ask questions and argue, but also the ability to reason, analyze and evaluate logically and accurately information, viewpoints and situations in handling work. Therefore, critical and creative thinking skills in solving work contribute to changing the perception and actions of civil servants and public employees in the context of scientific and technological development and the rapid developments of the current world situation. In the process of performing public duties, critical and creative thinking skills help civil servants and public employees understand issues more deeply, create logical arguments; at the same time, help civil servants and public employees to be confident, autonomous and bold in making decisions, plans and creative, reasonable and effective solutions in solving work.

In order for the training course to achieve good results, Deputy Minister Trieu Van Cuong requested the reporters to convey, disseminate and update useful and important information and regulations to the trainees with the highest spirit and responsibility; at the same time, increase the exchange of practical experiences, answer questions during the implementation process and share practical lessons on critical thinking and creative skills in solving problems.

For the trainees, the Deputy Minister requires them to study seriously, absorb and grasp the necessary knowledge to apply in their agencies and units ; actively exchange information to resolve problems related to critical thinking skills and creativity in solving work that occurs in the actual performance of tasks.

At the training course, the trainees were shared two topics by Dr. Vu Huu Kien, Senior Lecturer, International Labor Organization (ILO): Topic 1 "Creative thinking skills"; Topic 2 "Critical thinking skills"; along with active discussion and exchange between the trainees and with the reporter to help the trainees apply the skills well into practical work at the agency or unit.
