Deputy Minister Vu Chien Thang received Mayor of Fukushima City Kohata Hiroshi

On February 13, 2025, at the Ministry's headquarters, Deputy Minister of Home Affairs Vu Chien Thang received Mr. Kohata Hiroshi, Mayor of Fukushima City and Vice President of the Japan Mayors Association, along with his delegation who were on a visit to Vietnam.

Attending the reception, on the Japanese side were Mr. Watanabe Takakazu, Minister Counselor, and Mr. Hiromatsu Mitsutaka, Third Secretary of the Japanese Embassy in Vietnam; on the Vietnamese side were Ms. Tran Thi Lien Huong, Deputy Director of the International Cooperation Department, Ms. Nguyen Thi Tu Thanh, Deputy Director of the Local Government Department, and Mr. Bui Huy Tung, Deputy Chief of the Ministry's Office.

Speaking at the reception, on behalf of the Ministry's leadership, Deputy Minister Vu Chien Thang expressed his pleasure in welcoming the delegation from Fukushima City, Fukushima Prefecture, Japan to visit and work with the Vietnamese Ministry of Interior, and emphasized that this was the first foreign delegation to visit the Ministry of Interior in the new year of the Snake.

The Deputy Minister expressed his hope that the cooperation between the Ministry of Home Affairs of Vietnam and Fukushima will achieve many good results in the coming time. Deputy Minister Vu Chien Thang shared information about the functions and tasks of the Ministry of Home Affairs, about the revolution of streamlining the apparatus of the political system taking place in Vietnam today with the requirement of building a modern, transparent political system, for the rapid and sustainable development of Vietnam in the new era, achieving the goal of economic growth and improving people's lives.

During the meeting, the Mayor of Fukushima City, Mr. Kohata Hiroshi, expressed his sincere gratitude to the leaders of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for the warm welcome and information sharing with the delegation. He also introduced to Deputy Minister Vu Chien Thang some relevant information about Fukushima City, the capital of Fukushima Prefecture, and the city government's achievements in digital transformation, including Fukushima's high ranking in digital transformation in Japan in 2024.

Mayor Kohata Hiroshi also shared some prominent social issues in Japan, including the aging population, and expressed his hope that in the future, during the process of building and implementing cooperative relations with partners in Japan, the Vietnamese Ministry of Interior would consider the possibility of cooperating with Fukushima City.

In response, Deputy Minister Vu Chien Thang respectfully thanked the Fukushima city government for its positive policies and concern for the Vietnamese community living, studying, and working in Fukushima. He also acknowledged and highly appreciated the outstanding points, potential, and goodwill message of the Mayor of Fukushima city, considering this an important foundation for future cooperation directions between the Vietnamese Ministry of Interior and local governments in Japan in general, and Fukushima in particular; and to continue promoting cooperation in many fields, especially the prospect of cooperation in supplying human resources that match the capabilities and needs of each country in the future.
