Applying science and technology to develop product value chains according to international standards

Sharing at the Workshop "Connecting safe food products to modern distribution channels" held this morning, July 17, Mr. Huynh Thanh Hiep - Head of KCS Department, Quang Ngai Sugar Joint Stock Company said that the company's annual production output of RS, RE, RB sugar accounts for about 20% of the total processed sugar cane output in Vietnam; the company's VINASOY milk is also the leading product in the paper box soy milk industry, accounting for 90% of the Vietnamese market share, and is exported to demanding markets such as: USA, Japan, Korea, China, Canada... In addition, the Fami brand is in the top 50 most popular brands in Asia; the company's soft drinks, confectionery, beer, malt and other products and services have achieved national brands for many consecutive years, and are favored by consumers.

To achieve these results, Mr. Hiep said that the development strategy of Quang Ngai Sugar Joint Stock Company is to research and apply science and technology in production - business - finance activities; apply standards and tools in management and operation in production and business applied by the company such as ISO 9001, ISO 14001, HACCP/ISO 22000, 5S, MFCA, Lean 6 sigma, FSSC 22000, ISO 14064, ISO 50001...; orienting towards sustainable development, closed model, towards circular economy.

The company has introduced mechanized equipment in the process of land preparation, planting, fertilizing, caring for and harvesting sugarcane; invested in modern equipment and technology in the production of post-sugar products; applied software in the product chain, production and business management... At the same time, product quality is controlled to ensure compliance with international standards such as food safety control according to FSSC 22000...

According to Mr. Hiep, the results after applying science and technology, mechanization in the company's sugarcane raw material area are: Maximizing the sugar content in "ripe" sugarcane; sugarcane raw material is controlled as "ripe - fresh - clean"; ensuring food safety from the cutting stage until it is brought to the factory for production.

Appreciating the organization of the workshop, Mr. Park Chang Lyul - Director of Operations of Lotte Mart Vietnam said that Vietnam is an important market of LOTTE Group of Korea. One of the important strategies of Lotte Mart is to increase the development of domestic products, in order to bring high-quality goods at reasonable prices to consumers.

Currently, the list of goods distributed at the supermarket system is up to more than 100,000 items from food, household appliances to fashion, electronics, ... in which Vietnamese goods account for more than 80%.

In addition to goods, food, agricultural products, OCOP products, etc. imported directly from Vietnamese manufacturers and businesses, since 2016, the group has also launched its own brand Choice L, manufactured and processed in Vietnam, under the control and quality assurance of LOTTE Mart.

Up to now, LOTTE Mart is distributing nearly 800 Choice L private label products including many high quality, well-priced products that are popular with consumers.

“In LOTTE Mart's expansion strategy in Vietnam, we will continuously seek domestic suppliers who meet the conditions and standards to diversify our quality and safe food products to best serve our customers' needs,” emphasized Mr. Park Chang Lyul.

Mr. Park Chang Lyul also informed that over the years, LOTTE Mart has participated in many connection programs with domestic manufacturers to increase the introduction of Vietnamese goods into the system of 16 supermarkets nationwide.

During the networking events, the group shared with businesses the food purchasing process of LOTTE Mart, as well as updated new market consumption trends, so that domestic manufacturers can have effective adjustment strategies to improve product quality, innovate attractive designs to create competitive advantages, attract consumers, as well as meet the standards appearing in foreign distribution systems such as LOTTE Mart.

Regarding LOTTE Mart's input quality control process for food products, Mr. Park Chang Lyul affirmed that fresh products sold at LOTTE Mart supermarket system must meet VietGAP and GlobalGAP standards, and must undergo a strict quality control process from input to display on the counter, with periodic or random sampling for inspection. For each stage, LOTTE Mart will have separate control departments and processes to control quality.
