DTO - In the first months of 2025, Dong Thap province's high-performance sports achieved excellent results in national sports tournaments. Medals and noble titles created a clear mark, affirming the sports potential of the Land of Pink Lotus.
Athletes Chau Ngoc Han and Ngo Kim Ngan - Dong Thap Judo Team (podium number 1) excellently won gold medals at the 2025 National Judo Championship
In recent times, Dong Thap province's sports have made great strides, not only focusing on improving the quality of mass sports movements, but also paying special attention to developing sports talents, aiming for high achievements. Thanks to the attention of the Provincial People's Committee, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the efforts of coaches and athletes of the Provincial High School for Gifted Students, Sports Training and Competition, the province's key sports have continuously achieved many positive results in national and international arenas.
From March 31 to April 3, 2025, the Dong Thap Judo Team performed excellently at the 2025 National Judo Championship, organized by Dong Thap Province in coordination with the Department of Physical Training and Sports (Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism). With a "rejuvenated" force and injuries to many key players, the Dong Thap Judo Team is determined to bring gold medals to their homeland. Overcoming challenges from athletes from 20 strong units nationwide, the young athletes of Dong Thap brought home 2 gold medals, 3 silver medals, 2 bronze medals, exceeding the set target and ranking in the top 4 teams in terms of medals.
Proud to win the gold medal in the women's individual competition -70kg, martial artist Nguyen Thi Ngoc Nhung - Dong Thap judo team, shared: "Before the tournament, I was quite pressured because of the expectations from the coaching staff. Therefore, I always try my best on the training ground to prepare my physical strength, form, and spirit for the competition day. Entering the intense matches, the encouragement of the home audience and the instructions from the coach helped me to be confident, to win important victories, and to contribute to Dong Thap sports."
In addition to Ngoc Nhung, the duo Chau Ngoc Han - Ngo Kim Ngan also won a gold medal in the women's Katame No Kata doubles performance; 2 silver medals went to the pair Do Hoang Long - Nguyen Thien Minh (men's Katame No Kata performance) and Nguyen Thi Hong Gam (women's -63kg individual competition), Nguyen Thi Nhu Y (women's -78kg individual competition); 2 bronze medals were won in the men's -100kg individual competition (Pham The Minh Hieu), men's -55kg (Cao Minh Nghia).
Along with judo, the Dong Thap Weightlifting Team also made a strong impression at the 2025 National Youth Weightlifting Championship taking place from March 30 to April 3, 2025 in Dak Lak province. Participating in this tournament, the Dong Thap Weightlifting Team only registered 1 athlete Vo Thi Yen Vy to compete in the 40kg weight class for women in the 15-16 age group with the target of a bronze medal. Although her physical strength was affected due to the forced weight reduction from 44kg to compete in the 40kg weight class and fierce competition from her opponents, the 2009-born athlete of the Dong Thap Weightlifting Team showed her mettle and competed with "sublimity". Her excellent performance in the clean and jerk events helped Yen Vy bring home 2 gold medals, along with 1 silver medal in the snatch - concluding an unforgettable tournament for the young girl of the Red Lotus Weightlifting Team.
Coach Nguyen Van Truong - Dong Thap Weightlifting Team, said: “In 2024, Dong Thap only won 1 bronze medal, so the achievements in the 2025 season exceeded the expectations of the Coaching Board. It is even more admirable because athlete Vo Thi Yen Vy suffered a shoulder injury before her efforts to bring high achievements to her home province. The achievements of this tournament are also the motivation for the athletes of Dong Thap Weightlifting Team to be determined to aim for the Youth Tournament and the National Club Tournament with the desire to compete for medals”.
With the impressive achievements of judo and weightlifting, the Sepak Takraw team brought joy to Dong Thap sports by winning the overall first place in the 2025 National Sepak Takraw Club Championship (3 gold medals, 3 bronze medals); Dong Thap U19 football team won the bronze medal and the Style award when participating in the final round of the 2025 National U19 Football Championship... In 2025, Dong Thap will also focus on many important tournaments in the National and International arenas. The team of coaches and high-performance athletes continue to train hard to pursue their passion and conquer glory "for the flag and colors".
