Parents of students received a call impersonating a teacher reporting that their student had a traffic accident, parents transferred money to hospital
Accordingly, some parents of students at Vo Thi Sau High School (Binh Thanh District, Ho Chi Minh City) said that this morning, November 18, they received many calls from strange phone numbers, claiming to be teachers of the school, informing that students had a traffic accident and were in the hospital, needing money urgently for emergency surgery. Even right after receiving the calls, the parents of the students were vigilant, went to the school to report the incident, but they still continuously received calls from scammers demanding urgent money transfers.
A parent shared: "When I first heard, I was shocked, immediately contacted my family members and received a fraud warning. I also immediately called the homeroom teacher to ask and was told that my child was still studying in class as usual."
Speaking to reporters, Mr. Huynh Van Hoai, Vice Principal of Vo Thi Sau High School, said the incident happened this morning and the homeroom teacher reported it to the school board. According to Mr. Hoai, a few parents received the above calls. Some parents immediately contacted the homeroom teacher, because they lived nearby, so they went to the school to check the information.
A member of the school board said the school immediately asked homeroom teachers of each grade to notify parents for peace of mind. At the same time, it also notified teachers, students and parents to raise their vigilance and avoid being scammed by bad guys.
In March 2023, in Ho Chi Minh City, parents of students received phone calls impersonating teachers and school staff informing them that their children were hospitalized and needed to transfer money urgently to carry out life-saving surgery procedures. Some parents were surprised and worried and were tricked into transferring tens of millions of dong after receiving the call. After that, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training issued an urgent notice, requesting homeroom teachers to notify the school's hotline so that parents can contact them when they need to verify information, to avoid being scammed by scammers.
The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training requires heads of units to review and inspect conditions to ensure the safety of information of students, pupils and teachers managed at the unit. Educational institutions must have measures to propagate and guide parents, pupils and teachers to be cautious in receiving information, proactively review information, and avoid cases of false information...
At the same time, Ho Chi Minh City Police also warned about some contents related to this scam. Accordingly, when receiving information about a relative having an accident..., people need to stay calm, contact the agency, company, school where the relative is working, studying to check and verify the information.
