Tet purchasing power at supermarkets is increasing sharply

In recent days, Tet purchasing power at supermarkets in Hanoi has increased by about 20-30% compared to the previous week and by about 15% compared to the same period in 2024.


Information recorded at The inspection of Tet service deployment at Go! Thang Long supermarket and spring flower market in Nam Tu Liem district, Hanoi took place on the afternoon of January 16.

Mr. Nguyen Manh Quyen - Vice Chairman of the City People's Committee chaired the inspection team. The team included Ms. Nguyen Kieu Oanh - Deputy Director in charge of the Hanoi Department of Industry and Trade; leaders of specialized departments under the department; members of the inspection team for the organization of the Hoa Xuan market of the Department of Industry and Trade; leaders of the People's Committees of Cau Giay and Nam Tu Liem districts; representatives of enterprises and related officials.

Purchasing power is increasing day by day

Through inspection of Go! Thang Long supermarket, it was found that the supply of vegetables, meat, and fish was quite abundant and adequate. The candy and Tet gift basket stalls were also displayed attractively with reasonable prices.

Although there are still more than 10 days until Tet, the number of customers coming to the supermarket to shop is quite large and mainly concentrated in the fresh food, candy and fruit stalls. This year, Vietnamese products are also chosen by consumers. Many consumers evaluate that the source of Tet goods provided this year is relatively full and abundant. Most of the selected items are Vietnamese goods due to their good quality.

On the distribution side, Mr. Nguyen Minh Tuan - Director of Go! Thang Long supermarket - said that the market situation in December 2024 and Tet 2025, at GO! Thang Long supermarket system, Tet shopping trends are quite similar to previous years. The market of goods is rich, prices are stable, and shopping is diverse both on traditional and online channels.

If in the previous week, shopping was not much different from normal months, then in the past and especially in recent days, the number of customers coming to GO! Thang Long supermarket has increased quite high, about 20-30% compared to the previous week and about 15% growth compared to the same period in 2024.

To prepare for the goods, the supermarket has also started implementing from around the third quarter of 2024 with the amount of goods increasing by about 15% compared to the same period last year, focusing on fresh products to serve the Tet holiday this year. Notably, 90% of Vietnamese goods are prioritized for sale on supermarket shelves.

In addition, the supermarket also launched many promotional programs to stimulate consumption to bring consumers a full and prosperous Tet. The supermarket also worked with suppliers nationwide and shipping partners to ensure the supply of goods throughout Tet, without interruption before, during and after Tet. In addition to the direct sales channel, the supermarket also promoted the online sales channel to create the most favorable conditions for people to shop.

Avoid local shortages when purchasing power increases sharply

Sharing about the stockpiling of goods to serve shopping needs during the Lunar New Year, Ms. Nguyen Kieu Oanh - Deputy Director in charge of the Hanoi Department of Industry and Trade - said that in order to meet people's shopping needs during the Lunar New Year, the Hanoi Department of Industry and Trade and businesses have developed plans and signed contracts to exploit goods for Tet, increasing by an average of 5-20% for each item compared to the 2024 Tet service plan.

In particular, 22 retail businesses in Hanoi City pledged not to increase prices of essential consumer goods during the Lunar New Year holiday.

Speaking at the inspection, Vice Chairman of Hanoi People's Committee Nguyen Manh Quyen acknowledged the full and active preparation of retailers and supermarket systems in preparing a rich supply of goods to meet the shopping needs of people for the Lunar New Year 2025.

However, to be best prepared and avoid being passive in the days leading up to Tet when people's shopping needs increase, Mr. Nguyen Manh Quyen also noted that supermarkets, retailers and distributors should proactively supply goods to avoid local shortages when people's needs increase sharply.
