On February 19, 2025, the spokesman for the UN Secretary-General Stephane Dujarric warned that at least five areas in the North Darfur and South Kordofan states of Sudan are suffering from severe famine. Mr. Dujarric said that the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC) Initiative has found evidence of famine in at least five areas of Sudan, including the Zamzam, Abu Shouk and Al Salam refugee camps in North Darfur, and two locations in the Nuba Mountains in South Kordofan.
