After receiving capital support to convert production (growing jackfruit), Ms. Tran Thi Ngoc Yen invested in a water-saving irrigation system to adapt to climate change.
It can be said that the effectiveness of the implementation of Resolution No. 98/2019/NQ/HDND, dated December 10, 2019 of the People's Council of Tra Vinh province "Regulations on support levels for the development of small-scale irrigation, intra-field irrigation and advanced irrigation, water saving in Tra Vinh province" has brought positive impacts on agricultural cultivation; helping farmers in Cau Ke, Tieu Can, Cang Long, Cau Ngang, Duyen Hai districts... invest in water-saving irrigation systems on fruit trees, vegetables along with a closed net house model combined with water-saving irrigation.
Recorded in Cau Ke district, with the strength of garden economy (area of nearly 9,000ha); previously, gardeners mainly pumped water directly to irrigate orchids on the area of fruit gardens.
Comrade Pham Van Kha, Deputy Head of the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Cau Ke district said: After implementing Resolution No. 98 of the People's Council of Tra Vinh province, combined with the gardeners' own resources, a water-saving irrigation system was installed for nearly 30% of the fruit garden area. With the drought and high salinity at each time affecting the irrigation water source; the application of water-saving irrigation helps gardeners use the appropriate amount of water and the water source is stored in the garden ditches, through the compressor pump to bring water into the pipeline system with nozzles (customizable water amount) for irrigation. When using water-saving irrigation, the amount of water will be reduced by about 50% compared to watering orchids as before.
Currently, areas such as Tan Qui, An Hoa, Hoa An islets (An Phu Tan commune); An Binh, Hoi An (Hoa Tan commune); Giong Noi, Ngoc Ho, Ngai Nhat, Ngai Nhi (Tam Ngai commune) ... have over 50% of garden area invested by farmers in water-saving irrigation systems. Resolution No. 98 alone, in 2024, invested 07 projects for farmers in Hoa Tan, An Phu Tan, Phong Phu, Phong Thanh communes with an area of 31.61 hectares, costing over 879 million VND.
Ms. Tran Thi Ngoc Yen, Tan Qui 2 Hamlet, An Phu Tan Commune, Cau Ke District shared: her family has 0.35ha of specialized jackfruit garden (about 400 trees); from 2023, the family will receive capital support from the State to convert production (growing jackfruit) along with that, the family will contribute to invest in a water-saving irrigation system for 0.35ha. Thanks to the application of water-saving irrigation, during times of salinity and drought (closing the sluice gate), gardeners can proactively control the time and amount of water stored in the garden or through water pumped from a well.
As for specialized color growing areas in communes of Duyen Hai district such as Ngu Lac, Dong Hai... farmers are supported with capital through the implementation of Resolution No. 03/NQ-HDND, dated March 19, 2021 of the Provincial People's Council on promulgating the Regulation on policies to support restructuring of the agricultural sector of Tra Vinh province, period 2021 - 2025; in which, households are supported to build closed color growing net houses combined with water-saving irrigation (100 million VND/net house/ 1,000m2 ). This is one of the quite effective production models in the context of climate change, due to the impact of drought, saltwater intrusion... affecting production.
Mr. Thach Su, Soc Ot hamlet, Ngu Lac commune, Duyen Hai district said: his family received 100 million VND from the State to build a closed greenhouse for growing crops combined with water-saving irrigation (area 1,000m2 ). In addition to the high economic efficiency (about 60 - 70 million VND/year), the family is also proactive in terms of seasons and crops (year-round production); limiting pests and water sources. Previously, at the peak of the dry season, the irrigation water source from drilled wells was often lacking and dropped, since using water-saving irrigation, it has helped reduce the amount of water used by about 50% compared to flood irrigation.
