Spieth plays inconsistently but still takes luxury car on PGA Tour course

Jordan Spieth just shot -3 after two rounds of the 2024 Texas Open at the par-72 TPC San Antonio course, but along the way he got a Lexus sport utility vehicle.

On the opening day, Spieth shot 73 with four birdies, five bogeys, a double bogey and a hole-in-one at hole 16 to bring his round score up to +1. In such an inconsistent form, the result at hole 16 brought the former world number one a Lexus SUV - a prize from the tournament sponsor for the ace scorer.

At the par-3 16th hole, Spieth won the luxury car when he hit with a 7-iron, 199 yards from the target.

"After I finished the shot, I picked up the pin and placed the ball without looking because I believed I had hit it as expected. When I heard everyone cheering, I thought the ball was about to go in. I didn't expect the result to be exactly like that," Spieth recounted the shot that led to his fourth ace in his PGA Tour career.

It was also a positive result when the 30-year-old golfer from Texas just put a brand new 7-iron into practice because he was not satisfied with his old one of the same type. "If I didn't change the club, I probably wouldn't be like that. It's funny," Spieth said. Over 11 years on the PGA Tour, he has played in 266 tournaments, including three majors in 13 cups with a total prize money of nearly $62 million and 26 weeks at the top of the world's professional men's golf rankings.

As for the Texas Open, Spieth won with a score of -18 in 2021, also at TPC San Antonio. This time, the tournament is on the same battlefield, but Spieth expects many difficulties on the way to the championship. Because when he finished the second round on April 5, although he was in T10, his tournament score was only -3, eight strokes away from the top of the table. Standing at that position, Spieth was equal to seven and nine under his colleagues, including current world number two Rory McIlroy.
