On the afternoon of November 29, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh met with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

During the meeting, Mr. Erdogan affirmed that Türkiye attaches importance to developing multifaceted cooperation with Vietnam. He also thanked and expressed his appreciation for the valuable support that the Vietnamese Government and people have given to the Turkish people to overcome the consequences of the earthquake in February.

Bilateral trade target of 5 billion USD

The two leaders agreed on many specific measures to further promote multifaceted cooperation between the two countries.

In terms of politics and diplomacy, the two sides agreed to promote cooperation between the Communist Party of Vietnam and the ruling Justice and Development Party of Türkiye (AKP) as well as between the Governments and Parliaments of the two countries. The two sides discussed regional and international issues of mutual concern, emphasizing the importance of complying with international law, ensuring peace, security and development in the two regions and the world.

In terms of economy, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and President Recep Tayyip Erdogan agreed that the potential for cooperation is still very large and needs to be specifically exploited. The President affirmed that Türkiye is interested in promoting trade and investment cooperation with Vietnam, aiming for a bilateral trade turnover of 5 billion USD in the coming period. He hopes that the two countries will expand cooperation in the fields of tourism, health, energy, etc.

President Erdogan affirmed that he will direct ministries and branches to proactively implement the contents agreed upon during the Prime Minister's visit, including the early organization of the 8th Meeting of the Vietnam - Turkey Intergovernmental Committee and the 5th Political Consultation between the two Foreign Ministries in the first half of 2024.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh proposed that Türkiye create conditions for Vietnam's key export products such as footwear, agricultural products, seafood, etc. to penetrate Turkey's supermarket chains and distribution systems, and welcomed Turkish corporations and enterprises to invest in areas such as hydrogen development, infrastructure, logistics, etc.

The two leaders also agreed to promote cooperation in other areas such as Halal development, tourism, agriculture, education and training, and enhancing people-to-people exchanges. Regarding regional and international issues, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh announced that Vietnam will contribute 500,000 USD through the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) to provide emergency humanitarian relief to Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.

On this occasion, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh conveyed President Vo Van Thuong's invitation to President Recep Tayyip Erdogan to pay an official visit to Vietnam in 2024. President Recep Tayyip Erdogan happily accepted the invitation and hoped to soon arrange the visit.

Creating all conditions for Turkish businesses

Earlier, after the official welcoming ceremony solemnly held at the Presidential Palace, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh held talks with Vice President Cevdet Yilmaz.

At the press conference after the talks, opening his greetings in Turkish, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh said he was very impressed with the rich history and culture, with many majestic natural landscapes, with hospitable people, the country is known as the "crossroads of civilizations".

He appreciated the fact that Türkiye is currently the largest direct investor from the Middle East in Vietnam, with a total registered investment capital of nearly 1 billion USD. At the same time, he will create all conditions for Turkish corporations and enterprises to invest in priority areas such as industrial production, high-tech agriculture, consumption, green economy, and innovation.

Regarding cooperation in the field of defense and security, the two sides agreed to strengthen cooperation in the defense industry, promote information exchange, fight against crime, promote cooperation in training, technical training, technology, search and rescue, and humanitarian relief... The two leaders agreed to promote information exchange, participate in major international tourism events in each country, and consider simplifying visa procedures to further facilitate tourists from both countries.

After the meeting, the Turkish Vice President expressed his appreciation and affirmed that he will always remember the human and material support that the Vietnamese Government and people have given to Türkiye in overcoming the consequences of natural disasters. Türkiye will open a Turkish Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City.

The Turkish Vice President highly appreciated the success of the Vietur Consortium led by the Turkish company (IC Holdings Group) in winning the bid for the Long Thanh airport passenger terminal project (VND 35,000 billion). Mr. Cevdet Yilmaz also said that he had accepted an early official visit to Vietnam in 2024 at the invitation of Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and Turkish Vice President Cevdet Yilmaz witnessed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation in the field of agriculture and forestry between the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry of Turkey, a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation between the Diplomatic Academy of Vietnam and the Diplomatic Academy of Turkey, and a Letter of Intent on cooperation between Vietnam Airlines and Turkish Airlines.
