The group of 5 members Nguyen Phuc Tan, Nguyen Hoang Viet, Le Minh Hieu (high-tech agriculture), Nguyen Vu Huong Giang (environmental engineering technology) and Du Tuan Lam (business administration) decided to name the group 'Green Leaves', with the desire to spread green space through each biological painting.

Building a sustainable lifestyle through bio-painting

After four months of research, the group created a line of bio-paintings called BioPicture. The group uses recycled materials from bamboo and wood to make the frames and grows their own ornamental plants, vegetables, flowers, herbs, etc.

Le Minh Hieu said that the group had previous experience in treating bamboo and wood to prevent termites. From that knowledge, the group developed further to create a line of pure natural paintings.

"Regarding the tree breeds, our team takes them from the gardeners and brings them back to nurture. When the trees are healthy, we will proceed to plant cuttings in frames, monitor and take care of them carefully before delivering them to customers.

The time it takes to complete a painting depends on the shape, size of the frame and the type of plant. For a box-shaped frame, the time it takes to put the plant on the painting and wait for it to grow strong is about 3-5 days," Hieu said.

Nguyen Phuc Tan said that the product is made through the steps of collecting, classifying, processing wood and bamboo, increasing the moisture resistance of the picture frame, processing raw materials to certain sizes, assembling and planting trees.

"The most important step is the anti-termite treatment and increasing the material's moisture resistance. This step helps the painting withstand the impact of plant care and is durable in humid conditions to increase the painting's lifespan.

The group has learned a lot of experience, applied a lot of knowledge about plant physiology, mechanics in urban farming, automation and programming knowledge" - Tan said.

Using recycled materials, integrating IoT

Huong Giang shared: "The group's products can be flexibly placed anywhere, both indoors and outdoors. The group also integrates technological features, simplifies care, and is suitable for the lifestyle of urban residents.

The product is also equipped with sensors and a water pump motor. When the soil moisture is low, the system will activate the pump to water the plants. If it rains, the sensor will detect and stop the pump. Data collected from the sensor is continuously updated to the system thanks to the WiFi-connected circuit board, making it easy to monitor and control on/off on the phone even when the user is far away.

Du Tuan Lam said that the group conducted a field survey and found that many people have a need and interest in decorating green spaces in their homes and workplaces.

"Accordingly, the group also targets urban residents and office workers who want to own compact products that can be used to grow recreational plants and clean vegetables.

Currently, biological paintings have 2 price segments, pre-designed paintings range from 300,000 - 1 million VND/product. Paintings designed according to customer requirements range from 1 - 3 million VND/product" - Lam said.

The group also recently won first prize in the Ra Khoi startup idea competition organized by Van Lang University. In the near future, the group will try their hand at other startup competitions.

In line with green consumption trends

Dr. Vu Thi Quyen (Head of Biotechnology, Van Lang University) assessed that the group's paintings have many advantages and are suitable for the current green consumption trend.

"The group's paintings use recycled materials from forestry by-products, which are environmentally friendly. The product designs are diverse and unique, bringing high artistic value and aesthetics.

In addition, the product can also be customized in design, size, and plant species according to the needs of each customer" - Dr. Quyen shared.

However, Ms. Quyen also said that this line of biological paintings is still new in the Vietnamese market and not many people know about it. Therefore, commercializing the group's products will face many challenges.

"With the creativity and uniqueness of the product, along with the application of advanced technologies that denature materials to increase the lifespan of the picture frame, integrating IoT to reduce the care and management of protecting the botanical painting... the group needs to ensure the stability of the product and expand the range of target customers, increase communication and promotion..." - Dr. Quyen added.

Ý tưởng khởi nghiệp xanh có ở khắp nơi Green startup ideas are everywhere

TTO - From an idea to a successful product or startup solution in the market is a long and challenging journey, but if you overcome all obstacles, the opportunities will be wide open.
