During an exchange with students of the University of Economics and Law (Ho Chi Minh City National University) on the afternoon of April 15, Mr. Le Thanh Tam - General Director of IDG Vietnam Group, who was once in the top 12 ASEAN IT directors - received the question of how Vietnamese students can be accepted by foreign corporations?

Mr. Tam said that usually, Vietnamese students are afraid of finding a job abroad because they think it will be very difficult. However, in reality, finding a job abroad is not much different from finding a job in Vietnam, and will also go through many rounds of selection such as documents, interviews, and possibly some additional tests.

According to Mr. Tam, opportunities do not only come when students have graduated, but today many large corporations are also recruiting interns from other countries.

Most foreign corporations do not pay students when accepting internships, but in return, you will gain a lot of experience. Therefore, when doing an internship, you need to determine what you want to learn and do not hesitate to suggest.

Sharing about the criteria for students to be accepted into IDG Vietnam, Mr. Tam said the most important factor is the ability to work with people. This skill will be evaluated by the company's professional department through each recruitment stage.

For example, in the first round, the company will have three online tests for graduates. The first is a Vietnamese test, with many questions about using the mother tongue, because the candidate is working in Vietnam, so Vietnamese is important. Many candidates have difficulty with spelling questions, distinguishing between tildes and question marks.

Next is the English test, because you often have to work with international partners and customers. Finally, there is a test of general knowledge and current news. Completing more than 60% of the questions in the three tests, the candidate will have the opportunity to join the company.

Dr. Duong Van Thinh, director of Cemtes International (Singapore), said that many foreign companies have recruitment criteria that many Vietnamese students may find strange when they first hear them.

For example, some companies ask if candidates play sports. Candidates who say they are excellent at a sport are more likely to get hired.

Mr. Thinh explained that normally in the application files that are called for interviews, the ability between candidates will not differ much. Therefore, the company often highly values candidates with qualities other than expertise, of which health is one. In addition, during the interview process, the recruitment department will pay close attention to the candidate's attitude.

Once accepted, the candidate will still be closely monitored by the HR department to see their ability to work and adapt. If they demonstrate their ability, they will be retained.

According to Mr. Thinh, in addition to going abroad, developing a career in Vietnam is also worth considering. Because Vietnam is currently attracting a lot of foreign investment and the market is diverse in products and services. Not to mention, Vietnam is also your "home ground", so there will be less competition.
