A doctor who used to work at the National Institute of Nutrition participated in advertising for a milk company and is being investigated for counterfeiting.
According to the Food Safety Department, there is currently a situation where some doctors, pharmacists, and medical staff participate in advertising foods and functional foods, causing confusion for users.
According to the Government 's regulations detailing the implementation of a number of articles of the Food Safety Law, it clearly states: "Do not use images, equipment, costumes, names, correspondence of medical units, facilities, doctors, pharmacists, medical staff, thank you letters from patients, articles of doctors, pharmacists, medical staff to advertise food".
"Thus, the above action is a violation of the law," the Food Safety Department emphasized.
To limit excessive advertising, advertising without content assessment, and providing false information about food products to consumers, the Ministry of Health has issued an official dispatch requesting doctors and medical staff not to participate in advertising food and functional foods.
The Ministry of Health requests that hospitals under the Ministry of Health; institutes under the Ministry of Health; medical and pharmaceutical universities and colleges under the Ministry of Health; food-related associations; and the Vietnam Medical Association notify all cadres, civil servants, public employees, and workers (including workers of the unit who have retired) about the above situation.
At the same time, the Ministry of Health also proposed to review, inspect, and handle according to authority or recommend competent authorities to handle if there are violations.
Recently, many doctors and former doctors have participated in advertising and introducing functional food products, making many people angry.
Especially after the bust of the fake milk trading ring, many doctors and former doctors were discovered to have participated in introducing and exaggerating the effects of these products. This not only made consumers trust and buy the products, but after the incident, many people were confused and did not know what to believe.
Banning doctors and medical professionals from advertising and introducing these products is expected to limit the current widespread "explosive" advertising.
