At the conference, Director of Ben Tre Department of Home Affairs Nguyen Thi Ngoc Giau approved Submission No. 01 on the Draft Resolution of the Provincial People's Council on approving the policy of arranging administrative units at provincial and commune levels for Ben Tre province.

According to the draft, regarding the arrangement of commune-level administrative units, Ben Tre province will merge and reduce from the current 148 communes, wards and towns to 48 communes and wards (reducing 100 communes and wards), reaching a rate of 67.56%, ensuring compliance with Resolution No. 60-NQ/TW dated April 12, 2025 of the 11th Conference of the 13th Party Central Committee, aiming to reduce the number of commune-level administrative units by 60 - 70% compared to the present.

Speaking at the conference, Secretary of Ben Tre Provincial Party Committee Ho Thi Hoang Yen emphasized that, following the conclusions of the Central Committee, the Standing Committee of Ben Tre Provincial Party Committee has established a provincial Steering Committee to direct specialized agencies and the Party Committee of Ben Tre Provincial People's Committee to develop plans to merge commune-level administrative units according to the principles and goals of better serving the people after the merger.

The Secretary of the Ben Tre Provincial Party Committee proposed that after the Provincial Party Executive Committee approved the resolution, the Standing Committees of the district and city Party Committees would direct the agencies to coordinate with the Department of Home Affairs (the Standing Office of the Provincial Steering Committee) to collect public opinions on the content of the arrangement of administrative units at the provincial and commune levels, to be completed no later than April 17, 2025.

At the same time, direct the organization of the People's Council meeting at the commune level before April 19, 2025 and the organization of the People's Council meeting at the district level before April 22, 2025, approve the policy of arranging administrative units at the commune level and report to the Standing Office of the Steering Committee so that by April 26, 2025, the Provincial People's Council will approve the project of arranging administrative units at the provincial and commune levels.

The Provincial Party Committee's Organizing Committee proactively coordinates with relevant agencies and units to advise the Standing Committee to coordinate in developing a project to merge provincial-level administrative units according to regulations. Research and advise on developing a plan to arrange and organize the staff of commune-level and provincial-level units to operate smoothly starting from July 1, 2025.
