In early July, in Nam Chua commune, pineapple fields appear as beautiful as a brilliant picture with two main colors, green and yellow, of ripe pineapples arranged in neat rows.
People from the villages spread out on the roads to the fields to pick pineapples to sell to traders.
On the field, Mr. Hoang A Chinh's family in Nam Chua 4 village is cutting pineapples, putting them in jars, then carrying them down and stacking them neatly on the side of the road.
Mr. Chinh said that this year's weather was favorable, the pineapples were bigger and more beautiful, the pineapple eyes were also even and beautiful. With only over 1 hectare of pineapple, this year his family earned about over 150 million VND.
In Nam Chua 4 and Huoi Co Mong villages, there are currently 20 families growing Queen pineapples (also known as queen pineapples). All pineapple seedlings are supported by the Project on linking production and consumption of organic pineapples implemented by the District Agricultural Service Center.
In addition to seedlings, pineapple growers are also supported with fertilizers, pesticides and technical guidance on planting, caring for and preventing diseases for the plants. Thanks to this, families are very confident in implementing the project model.
The representative of the pineapple purchasing unit, Ms. Han Van Anh - Good Agriculture Joint Stock Company, said that the Company is currently purchasing all pineapples from the people of Nam Chua commune at a uniform price of 5,000 VND/kg; and buying large fruits at 8,000 VND/fruit.
Thanks to the success of the first pineapple crops, many people have boldly converted rice fields to pineapple cultivation. Thanks to these successes, the local government also believes that pineapple has opened the right and effective direction.
Chairman of Nam Chua Commune People's Committee Thao A Khai said that in previous years, Nam Chua Commune encountered many difficulties in agricultural development; people mainly grew cassava, which was both hard work and low economic efficiency. Meanwhile, after 1-2 years of growing cassava, the soil became infertile and had to be moved to another area, which made the government very worried.
"Now pineapple trees are in season and have good prices, bringing in large revenues, which is the motivation for people to take care of and develop them. The People's Committee of the commune will also continue to promote and mobilize people to expand the pineapple growing area, moving towards building a brand for Nam Po pineapple trees."
According to Mr. Thao A Khai, in the coming time, Nam Chua commune will coordinate with units to strengthen guidance for farmers to strictly follow planting and care techniques. At the same time, synchronously apply intensive scientific farming processes to increase productivity and quality of pineapple.
In addition, we will cooperate with businesses to plan large-scale pineapple growing areas, ensuring food hygiene and safety. At the same time, we will request businesses and purchasing units to sign a commitment to purchase products for farmers, creating a sustainable and stable direction.
Nam Chua commune, Nam Po district, Dien Bien province was established in 2013 on the basis of receiving highland villages of Na Hy commune.
Nam Chua commune currently has more than 6,800 hectares of natural area, with a population of over 2,500 people, of which 99% are ethnic minorities; the commune's poverty rate is 63.5% while the average poverty rate of Nam Po district is 44.65%.
