Dr. Bui Ngoc Quang - Deputy Director in charge of the Museum said that the program "Happy Spring of the Year of the Dragon: Cultural nuances of Hoi An" aims to create opportunities for the public to explore the traditional Tet and cultural heritage of Hoi An. "Coordinating with Hoi An city to introduce traditional crafts and folk arts contributes to honoring the cultural values here in the journey to join the UNESCO Creative Cities Network. The program hopes to create a useful playground for young people, helping to increase understanding of the traditional Tet in general and the cultural heritage of Hoi An in particular. From there, young people will understand and appreciate the traditional culture of their ancestors and raise awareness of protecting and promoting heritage values in contemporary society".
Participating in the program, locals and tourists have the opportunity to learn about traditional crafts such as lantern making, Thanh Ha pottery, Kim Bong carpentry with folk artisans. In addition, visitors can also enjoy Quang folk songs, Sac Bua singing, Ba Trao Cau Ngu performance, and Bai Choi game of people from Hoi An. Traditional dishes are also introduced to the public through the flavors of Quang noodles, Cao Lau, Banh Dap, Banh Bong Hong...
In addition, creative bamboo sculpture activities originating from Kim Bong carpentry will also be performed on this occasion. All these activities will be performed by 40 children of Hoi An in this year's program.
This year, the program has a special activity called Hoi An Night: Light up the heritage, open for free from 5:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. on the 8th and 9th days of Tet (February 17 and 18, 2024). This activity creates an opportunity for the public to explore the folk arts and traditional crafts associated with Hoi An ancient town. The space of Hoi An ancient town is recreated in the bright lantern light, accompanied by images of artisans making pottery, carpentry, lanterns, and bamboo statues. Those who love activities can participate in the game of "hidden clay pot smashing", "bai choi" singing, and folk song practice.
In addition, young people have the opportunity to learn about the traditional Tet and culture of Hoi An with the support of technology through interactive screen experiences and dragon drawing contests to discover the children of the dragon... Visitors will have impressive check-in photos in the space of Hoi An ancient town right in the heart of Hanoi.
A new feature of this program is the application of technology in the exploitation and exploration of traditional cultural heritage. The public has the opportunity to participate in the Joyful Gifts Tour to discover the meaning of Tet; QR Tour: Discovering the Dragon Tet in the exhibition space of the Museum; Dragon Painting Contest and Discovering the Children of the Dragon... The activities both apply technology to create diverse interactive experiences to attract young people and integrate the introduction of related cultural information. Thereby, the meanings of cultural heritages are conveyed to the public in a simple and easy-to-understand way.
STEM activities instructing children how to make some toys related to the Tet theme to learn scientific knowledge are also introduced to enrich the experiences. These activities contribute to diversifying the forms of approaching young audiences to bring cultural heritage to the younger generation.
Mr. Nguyen Van Lanh - Vice Chairman of Hoi An City People's Committee said that Hoi An is very honored to participate in the event at the Vietnam Museum of Ethnology through the program "Happy Spring of Giap Thin: Cultural nuances of Hoi An" with the participation of more than 40 artisans from Hoi An, including the special program "Hoi An Night: Lighting up heritage together".
"We have tried to filter and introduce and express the most simple but typical values of Hoi An and Quang Nam's cultural heritage at this event. In a small space arranged to simulate the shape of a corner of Hoi An street, we will participate in activities such as making lanterns, making Thanh Ha pottery, making Kim Bong carpentry, learning the witty and profound melodies of folk songs, performing Ba Trao Cau Ngu, playing the folk game Bai Choi, or enjoying and contemplating a Hoi An with "a hundred things and a hundred delicacies" through the flavors of Quang noodles, Cao Lau, Banh Dap, Banh Bong Hong Trang...", Mr. Nguyen Van Lanh - Vice Chairman of Hoi An City People's Committee shared.
Ms. Truong Thi Ngoc Cam, Director of the Center for Culture - Sports and Radio - Television of Hoi An city, shared that this is a good opportunity for Hoi An people to introduce their cultural heritage directly to the public in the capital. "We wish to honor the values of local cultural heritage as well as create opportunities for exchange and cooperation for Hoi An. Through these practical activities, we will contribute to affirming the values of handicrafts and folk arts in Hoi An's journey to join the UNESCO Creative Cities Network, while promoting and introducing the image of Hoi An to a large number of Vietnamese and international tourists."
The program is expected to bring satisfaction to the people of the Capital who have a deep love for and want to learn about Quang Nam culture and the culture of the Central region; at the same time, it contributes to warming the feelings and consciousness towards the homeland of the people of Hoi An, Quang Nam people living abroad in the Capital. This is also an opportunity to introduce the unique features of handicrafts and folk arts in Hoi An's journey to join the UNESCO Creative Cities Network.
