Recently, with the drastic and strict handling, without forbidden areas or exceptions, of functional forces, including traffic police nationwide, regarding alcohol concentration in drivers, it has helped bring about positive results and impacts.

Readers ask representatives of the Ministry of Public Security and doctors about concerns about 'measuring alcohol concentration'

This has contributed to preventing and reducing traffic accidents, reducing the number of emergency patients due to alcohol in hospitals, especially during the recent 2024 Lunar New Year holiday.

Also related to this content, at the 6th session of the 15th National Assembly, the Government submitted to the National Assembly for first consideration the draft Law on Road Traffic Order and Safety.

Notably, regarding the prohibited acts in Clause 1, Article 8 of the draft Law on Road Traffic Order and Safety, it is prohibited to drive a vehicle on the road while having alcohol concentration in the blood or breath.

Besides many opinions agreeing with the regulation of absolute prohibition of alcohol concentration (or alcohol concentration of 0) for drivers in the draft law, there are also concerns.

Accordingly, it is believed that an absolute ban on alcohol concentration for drivers will be difficult to implement in some specific cases, not to mention that our bodies always have alcohol concentration, so it is recommended to research and refer to the experience of other countries to regulate the threshold.

To clarify this content, from 9-11am on March 4, Tuoi Tre Online organized an online exchange with the topic: "Alcohol concentration: What are the appropriate regulations?", with the participation of the following guests:

- Colonel Nguyen Quang Nhat - Head of the Department of Traffic Accident Investigation and Resolution, Traffic Police Department, Ministry of Public Security.

- Dr. Nguyen Trung Nguyen - Director of Poison Control Center, Bach Mai Hospital.
