Saigon Railway Transport Joint Stock Company said that the railway will apply new regulations on transporting luggage on passenger trains from February 2024.

Accordingly, the free carry-on baggage allowance of each passenger with a valid train ticket must not exceed 20kg; length must not exceed 0.8m; width must not exceed 0.5m; height must not exceed 0.4m and volume must not exceed 0.16m.

In case the hand luggage exceeds the prescribed weight and size, the passenger must purchase a ticket according to the regulations. If the luggage hinders the passenger's movement or causes safety problems in the passenger car, the passenger must send the luggage to the luggage car if there is space in the luggage car.

Regarding the packaging of checked baggage, depending on the nature of the goods, passengers and senders must wrap and pack them properly to ensure that they are not damaged, broken, spilled, displaced or affect other goods during loading, unloading and transportation.

Each package must not exceed 2.5m in length; 0.5m in width; 0.5m in volume; and 75kg in weight.

The minimum chargeable weight for checked baggage is 5kg/piece; fractional weight from 0.5kg or more is rounded up to 1kg; from 6kg or more is calculated based on the actual weight (rounded up). For bulky items, the charge is 300kg per 1m.

Specifically, bicycles are charged at 50kg/unit; electric bicycles of all kinds and motorbikes of all kinds with a cylinder capacity of less than 50cm3 are charged at 100kg/unit; electric motorbikes and motorbikes of all kinds with a cylinder capacity from 50cm3 to under 125cm3 are charged at 150kg/unit.

Motorcycles of all types with cylinder capacity from 125cm3 to under 250cm3 are charged at 250kg/unit; motorcycles of all types with capacity from 250cm3 to under 500cm3 or more are charged at 450kg/unit. Motorcycles of all types with capacity from 500cm3 or more are charged at 700kg/unit.

Whole refrigerators with a capacity of less than 150 liters are charged at 150kg/unit; whole refrigerators with a capacity of 150 liters or more are charged at 300kg/unit...

For bicycles of all kinds, motorbikes of all kinds (whole and disassembled), sewing machines, refrigerators of all kinds, if packed into sturdy crates that can be stacked with other goods, the fee for 1m is 250kg.

After completing the procedures for checking in baggage, passengers and baggage senders can change or not send all or part of the checked baggage; change the destination station or recipient, but must complete the procedures for changing or adjusting 4 hours before the train departs at the stations that accept and transport checked baggage.

During the above period, passengers and baggage senders may withdraw part or all of their checked baggage, but must submit a request and receive a refund of the withdrawal fee, and must pay for loading and unloading, and storage fees (from the time of receipt to delivery) according to the company's regulations.
