Today, at the request of Mr. Hun Sen, King Norodom Sihamoni of Cambodia issued a royal decree declaring that he "appointed Dr. Hun Manet as Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia for the 7th term of the National Assembly."
However, to officially become the country's new leader, Mr. Hun Manet and his new cabinet must pass a vote of confidence in the Cambodian National Assembly on August 22.
Mr. Hun Sen became Prime Minister of Cambodia in 1985. He helped modernize the country after war and genocide. After leaving office, Prime Minister Hun Sen will become President of the Cambodian Senate early next year.
