International aid to Vietnam to cope with storms and floods

The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development said it has contacted and received commitments from international organizations to provide emergency relief to people affected by storm No. 3 (YAGI). Currently, three international organizations have announced that they will transport relief goods to Vietnam.
The first aid shipment from the Australian Government, transported by military aircraft, arrived at Noi Bai International Airport on the evening of September 11. The shipment included: 284 personal hygiene kits; 120 kitchen utensils; 600 blankets; 264 home repair kits; 600 sleeping mats; 522 tarpaulins; 360 mosquito nets.

The second shipment donated by the AHA Center includes: 2,002 household kits (including: plastic buckets, water bags, towels, T-shirts, mosquito nets, candles, FM radio); 1,008 home repair kits (including: ropes, hand saws, metal nails, shovels, hoes, scissors, corner nails, ties, hammers); 1,015 kitchen kits including: pots, bowls, plates, knives, spoons, forks, cups, wooden ladles; 3,031 personal hygiene kits, including: laundry detergent, sanitary napkins, handkerchiefs, toothbrushes, toothpaste, soap, shampoo. The aid shipment is expected to be delivered to Noi Bai International Airport around September 13-14. The next shipment is donated by JICA (Japan), including: 40 portable water purifiers (pump filter, ceramic filter core; filtration speed 4l/min, maximum filtration capacity 100,000 l; 200 multi-purpose plastic tarpaulins, HDPE material, size 50 x 4 m). The aid shipment is expected to be delivered to Noi Bai International Airport around September 16-17. The Department of Dyke Management and Disaster Prevention and Control representing the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development will receive aid goods from international organizations at Noi Bai Airport and coordinate transportation and handover to localities. Local authorities will organize distribution to affected people. Currently, the Department of Dyke Management and Disaster Prevention and Control is continuing to discuss and work with a number of other donors such as: UNWomen, Samaritan purse, Embassy of Switzerland, Embassy of France, Save the Children to agree on emergency assistance for people in areas affected by floods, flash floods and landslides. The US Embassy in Vietnam informed that the US Mission in Vietnam, through the US Agency for International Development (USAID), will provide $1 million in emergency humanitarian assistance to support Vietnam in overcoming the catastrophic damage caused by Typhoon Yagi. This aid will be allocated to humanitarian relief partners to be able to provide cash assistance for various purposes, providing shelter, clean water, sanitation as well as other support beyond food to contribute to the disaster relief efforts directed by the Government of Vietnam that are urgently being implemented across the country. The $1 million in assistance builds on long-standing support to the Government of Vietnam and the Vietnam Red Cross Society to help build climate resilience and enhance disaster preparedness for communities across the country. Over the past five years, the U.S. Mission to Vietnam, through USAID, has provided $7.7 million in emergency and disaster preparedness assistance, including responding to storm and flood needs and building the capacity of disaster response teams across the country. On the same day, according to information from the Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Deputy Foreign Minister Pham Thanh Binh received Japanese Ambassador to Vietnam Ito Naoki to deliver a message of condolence from Japanese Prime Minister Kishida Fumio to Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh on the impact of Typhoon Yagi in Vietnam. In the telegram, Prime Minister Kishida Fumio expressed his deep condolences to the families of victims in the areas affected by the storm, and emphasized that the Japanese Government always accompanies and is ready to support Vietnam to overcome difficulties, overcome the consequences and soon stabilize life.
