NDO - On the morning of March 16, specialist doctor Phan Xuan Nam, Director of Quang Tri General Hospital, said that the unit had just successfully treated a 34-month-old child who had swallowed a sharp screw into his stomach.
Previously, at around 5:10 p.m. on March 15, the Provincial General Hospital received a child patient named HPH, from Don Due village, Vinh Hoa commune, Vinh Linh district, who was taken to the emergency room by his family after discovering that he had swallowed a screw.
Through examination and X-ray results, a foreign object was discovered in the digestive tract, measuring 24.15mm. Doctors from the General Surgery Department quickly consulted and coordinated with the Functional Exploration Department to perform an endoscopy to successfully remove the foreign object that same night.
Doctors removed a 24.5mm screw from the baby's abdomen. |
Currently, patient H.'s health is stable and continues to be monitored.
According to Dr. Phan Xuan Nam, due to the sharp nature of the nail head, if not removed promptly, the nail can cause damage such as puncturing the intestinal wall, stomach, and can even cause holes in many places where the nail passes through.
At the same time, families with small children are advised to be careful when playing and should not let them play with small objects that are easy for children to swallow and can cause very unfortunate consequences. If you suspect that your child has swallowed a foreign object, take the child to a medical facility immediately.
