Kinhtedothi- Quang Ngai has identified tourism as a key economic sector. However, tourism infrastructure, especially high-end resorts in this province, has yet to meet the needs of tourists.
Lack of high-end resort infrastructure
In November 2021, Quang Ngai Provincial Party Committee issued Resolution 05 on promoting tourism development, to gradually turn tourism into a spearhead economic sector.
After nearly 4 years of implementing this Resolution, Quang Ngai tourism has seen many improvements. If in 2021, the total number of visitors to Quang Ngai reached 300,000, with a total revenue of 235 billion VND, then by 2024, the total number of visitors is estimated to reach over 1.4 million with a total revenue of 1,250 billion VND.
Tourism products have been gradually diversified. In particular, sea and island tourism continues to play a key role, along with cultural tourism, eco-tourism, and tourism associated with sports events, contributing to promoting the image and attracting tourists to Quang Ngai.
However, diversifying tourism types is still not enough for Quang Ngai to become a magnet for tourists. The shortage of resorts and luxury hotels to meet the increasing demand of tourists is still a tourism problem facing this province.
Notably, in Quang Ngai province, there are no high-class resorts or entertainment areas that meet 5-star standards to serve international visitors and tourists with high spending ability, especially lacking 4-5 star hotels.
According to statistics, Quang Ngai currently has about 390 accommodation establishments with about 4,950 rooms but only 4 4-star hotels and equivalent, 8 3-star hotels and equivalent.
In particular, Ly Son district is a key tourist area of the province, currently has about more than 100 accommodation establishments with more than 1,000 rooms but only 1 4-star hotel, 1 3-star hotel and 24 hotels that meet the minimum conditions to serve tourists.
Some establishments have not focused on investing in upgrading facilities, lack professionalism in design and decoration, lack of uniformity, monotony and deterioration of equipment, and lack of supporting services such as restaurants, bars, swimming pools, etc., so they have not met the increasing demands of tourists.
What is the solution?
In fact, from 2022 to now, many investors have been interested in and proposed to implement large-scale tourism projects in Quang Ngai such as: Sea Square Park combined with urban area - ecological services of Quang Ngai City, Coastal Quang Ngai Ecological Urban Area project, Dong Quang Ngai Ecological Urban Area, Southeast Dung Quat New Urban Area - South and Southeast Dung Quat New Urban Area - North (these projects all have accommodation items)...
However, according to Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Quang Ngai province Nguyen Tien Dung, some investors have had to temporarily suspend their investment projects despite their proposals because they cannot access land; some others have had their projects implemented slowly and tentatively due to their financial capacity not being guaranteed and not being in line with the planning...
As a result, the accommodation infrastructure in the province is still limited, not diverse, and does not meet the needs of organizing large-scale and national events and activities. In addition, the province does not have preferential policies and mechanisms to attract investment in this field.
According to the Director of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the development of accommodation infrastructure plays an important role in tourism development, contributing significantly to increasing the competitiveness and attractiveness of Quang Ngai tourism in the future.
To improve the quantity and quality of accommodation facilities in the coming time, departments, branches, and localities need to closely coordinate in implementing administrative procedure reforms, supporting, guiding, and creating conditions for organizations and individuals to develop accommodation infrastructure in the province.
Attract investment in developing high-end, internationally branded accommodation complex projects, especially 3-5 star hotels in key tourist areas and industrial parks in the province, and capable of organizing large-scale, national-level activities and seminars.
"Authorities should have mechanisms and policies to support investors developing accommodation facilities to enjoy the highest incentives in terms of taxes, land use fees, etc. At the same time, create an open investment environment to attract investment in infrastructure and tourism accommodation infrastructure," Mr. Dung proposed.
