Free electric car for tourists on Cat Ba Island from April 18

The system includes electric cars and electric buggies, deployed to solve the problem of intra-island traffic, reduce pressure from private vehicles, and contribute to positioning Cat Ba as an ecological, environmentally friendly destination.

Synchronized traffic - comprehensive connection

According to the plan, during the free trial period (from April 18 to May 15), 10 electric cars will operate continuously to pick up and drop off visitors between Phu Long cable car station and Xanh Island central bay. From May 16, 2025, the system will be expanded to 20 cars of each type, with 150 trips/day, meeting peak summer demand.

The electric car operates from early morning to late evening, synchronized with the operating time of the Sun World Cat Ba cable car line and events in the central bay city of Xanh Island, helping visitors easily plan their experiences and travel.

In addition, electric buggies are also expected to be put into operation in May to serve the transportation between Cat Ba Marina (Dong Ho Bay) and Xanh Island, connecting to beaches and tourist attractions, creating a closed journey for visitors.

Removing traffic bottlenecks - creating a carbon-free island

Cat Ba is witnessing strong tourism growth. In the first two months of 2025 alone, the northern pearl island welcomed more than 280,000 visitors. However, the transport infrastructure has not kept up with the pace of development. At Dong Bai ferry terminal, traffic jams lasting for kilometers often occur, affecting the experience of tourists and the daily life of local people.

On the island, the number of private vehicles and passenger buses has increased dramatically, while the existing public transport system is not enough to meet the demand, putting great pressure on the environment and traffic infrastructure.

The operation of a synchronized electric car, electric buggy, and high-speed boat system is expected to gradually remove traffic bottlenecks, while aiming to build Cat Ba into the first eco-tourism island in Vietnam with zero carbon emissions.

According to energy and environmental experts, limiting personal gasoline and diesel vehicles on the island and replacing them with environmentally friendly electric vehicles is a necessary step, demonstrating a commitment to developing sustainable and responsible tourism.

In particular, Sun Group has simultaneously put into operation two new high-speed train routes, creating more convenient travel options for tourists:

Cat Hai - Cat Ba route (25 minutes): operating from April 18, taking passengers from Cat Hai marina (near Dong Bai ferry terminal) to Cat Ba marina (Dong Ho bay).

Ha Long - Cat Ba route (50 minutes): operating from May 17, 2025, departing from Ha Long International Passenger Port.

To support guests in conveniently parking their personal vehicles, the parking lot at Cat Hai Marina is currently being upgraded with a roof and smart management system.
