According to Mr. Huong Van Minh - Deputy Director of the Department of Industry and Trade, completing logistics infrastructure is extremely important, identified as one of the key tasks in local socio-economic development, creating leverage for trade and service activities and export of goods, increasing the competitiveness of the province's products.

In recent times, Quang Nam has focused on researching and implementing many solutions to modernize logistics activities to promote import and export trade of goods such as promoting investment in Chu Lai airport to meet international airport standards with a scale of level 4F or planning to dredge Quang Nam seaport to meet type I standards to receive ships up to 500,000 tons.

Investing in Nam Giang Border Gate Economic Zone with Nam Giang - Dac Ta Ooc international border gate; repairing National Highway 14D connecting with Nam Giang international border gate, developing the East-West economic corridor.

Many national and provincial highways connecting functional areas and concentrated production areas have also been upgraded and expanded, including inland waterway routes, creating favorable conditions for businesses to promote import and export activities.

As of June 2024, the whole province has about 200 enterprises conducting import-export activities, most of which have achieved quite positive results.

In the period of 2021 - 2023, Quang Nam's total import-export turnover reached 13.3 billion USD, in the first 5 months of 2024 alone, import-export turnover reached 1.5 billion USD, an increase of 10% over the same period last year.

Main export items include garment processing, shoes, electronic chips, construction materials... Main import items are auto parts, electronic parts, raw materials for producing ceramic tiles, electricity, machinery and equipment, imported raw materials for producing export goods...

According to Mr. Vo Van Khanh - representative of Vietnam E-commerce Association in the Central Highlands, connecting and cooperating with provinces and cities in the Central Highlands, Southern Laos, and Northeastern Thailand will open up development opportunities for the fields of trade, tourism, investment attraction, forming economic zones, and promoting local socio-economic development. In particular, Quang Nam with its advantages can benefit greatly.

Accordingly, it is necessary to focus on perfecting logistics infrastructure, providing professional logistics solutions, combining multiple modes of transportation. At the same time, strengthening supply chains and logistics operations, promoting multi-channel sales, applying new e-commerce models, developing supply chains, providing trade connections for goods sources in many forms (including traditional trade and cross-border e-commerce); supporting training for small businesses to open stores on e-commerce platforms such as Tiktok, Shopee... will bring certain effects.

Inter-regional connection

With a basically completed system of highways, deep-water seaports, airports, etc., Quang Nam is considered a convenient gateway to the sea for goods from the Central Highlands provinces and outside through the East-West economic corridor. From there, it brings advantages to build Quang Nam into a major maritime transport center, an important logistics hub in the region.

At the Conference on Trade Promotion and Import-Export Development in the Central Region held last weekend in Da Nang City, Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Phan Thi Thang acknowledged that the Central region plays an important role in economic development, especially the marine economy.

In 2023, the region's economic growth rate will reach 5.51%, higher than the national average, with an economic scale of more than VND 1,570 trillion (accounting for 15.06% of the country's GDP).

Import-export turnover reached more than 46.7 billion USD (export turnover reached more than 22 billion USD, import turnover reached nearly 24.7 billion USD), Thanh Hoa is the leading locality in the region in terms of import-export turnover, followed by Quang Ngai, Ha Tinh, Quang Nam, Khanh Hoa...

Some industries with development advantages in the region include semiconductor industry, chip manufacturing and design, coastal industry, sea tourism, maritime economy, etc. These are advantages that Quang Nam can grasp.

In recent times, in addition to strengthening connectivity, Quang Nam has also issued many policies to support, encourage and attract prestigious, capable and experienced corporations and enterprises to invest and develop, especially logistics infrastructure; diversify markets and supply chains, boost exports, create sources of goods and markets, and space for logistics services to develop.

In particular, developing high-quality human resources that meet international standards; enhancing innovation in trade and investment promotion, connecting supply and demand in both domestic and international markets; effectively exploiting free trade agreements that Vietnam has signed...

According to Mr. Huong Van Minh, regional linkage in trade and import-export activities always plays an important role. However, linkage also requires coordination of many related departments and agencies such as modernizing customs activities, widely applying electronic customs procedures, implementing the national single window mechanism, the ASEAN single window mechanism, helping to speed up transportation and delivery.
