The articles all focused on the theme “Laos-Vietnam continue to strengthen special relations”, stating that right after the solemn official welcoming ceremony at the Presidential Palace in Hanoi on the morning of January 6, Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone and Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh held talks at the headquarters of the Vietnamese Government.
At the meeting, the two sides highly appreciated the results of bilateral cooperation in 2023, were pleased to see that many projects were completed on schedule and ahead of schedule, many projects progressed well and many existing problems between the two countries were also resolved.
The two sides recognized that the political relationship between the two countries continues to be consolidated, stable and has a high level of mutual trust. This is a good foundation for promoting cooperation in defense - security, economy, trade, investment, industry, energy, education, culture, tourism, health ... The two sides also discussed the direction and plan for cooperation in the coming time, agreeing to continue to jointly implement the agreements of the two countries' high-ranking leaders as well as related documents between the two Parties, the two States and all ministries and branches from the central to local levels.
According to Lao press, at the talks, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh warmly welcomed and highly appreciated Comrade Sonexay Siphandone's first official visit to Vietnam as Prime Minister; pledged to continue to cooperate, support and assist Laos in the coming time, especially when Laos holds the ASEAN Chair in 2024.
On behalf of the Lao Party, Government and People, Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone expressed his deep gratitude and sincere thanks to the Party, State and People of Vietnam for always helping and supporting Laos in the cause of national defense and construction over the past years; and congratulated the New Year 2024 as well as the upcoming traditional New Year of the Vietnamese people.
According to Lao electronic press publications, at the end of the talks, the two Prime Ministers of Vietnam and Laos witnessed the signing of four cooperation documents, including the Border Cooperation Protocol between the Vietnamese and Lao Ministries of Defense; the Memorandum of Understanding on the Cooperation Plan between the Office of the Government of Vietnam and the Office of the Lao Prime Minister; the Memorandum of Understanding on the development and connection of border trade infrastructure between the Vietnamese and Lao Governments; and the 2024 Cooperation Plan between the Ministry of Education and Training of Vietnam and the Ministry of Education and Sports of Laos.
