"Turkey should apply to join BRICS as soon as possible," Topkurulu told Sputnik .
Last June, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan said Ankara intended to join BRICS.
Russia takes over the rotating presidency of the group from January 1, 2024.
Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) joined the organization this year. Saudi Arabia has not formally joined but has attended BRICS meetings.
BRICS is seen as a platform for emerging economies to have a greater voice and influence in international politics and Türkiye's entry could help it diversify its economy and strengthen its global standing.
