Phuong Thanh: 'I didn't give birth to a child to hide my gender'

After a period of silence, in 2024, Phuong Thanh returned to music. The female singer said that after many events, she calmly accepted everything in the present. The singer of "Drumless" was commented to be more radiant, fresh and beautiful thanks to finding her own happiness.

The female singer also affirmed that her daughter is the biggest motivation for her to overcome all difficulties during the past time. Phuong Nghi - Phuong Thanh's daughter is also 19 years old this year. Her daughter always supports Phuong Thanh to get married soon instead of being single for many years.

Phuong Thanh denies rumors that she gave birth to avoid gender. The singer affirms that she is very feminine and still wants to be a princess.

"People often say I gave birth to hide my gender, but actually I still want to be a princess," the singer said.

Previously, when participating in a show for the LGBT community, Phuong Thanh spoke frankly about rumors of being a third gender. The female singer shared that people thought she was a boy when she was young.

"Many years of being passionate on stage made the audience think I was too masculine. But that was necessary when wanting to convey energy to the audience. But in real life, Phuong Thanh can make guys crazy," the female singer once said.

At the age of 51, Phuong Thanh feels fulfilled when she has a happy life with her daughter, receiving the affection of many loyal long-time fans as well as close friends and colleagues, including Siu Black. That is also one of the reasons why she decided to organize the live show Doa Hong Gai in Hanoi, after a period of silence in music.

Siu Black said that at their peak, her position and Phuong Thanh's were "equal". When she accepted the invitation to perform as a guest at Doa Hong Thorn, Siu Black said she was willing to step back and give the stage to her juniors to shine.

In response, Phuong Thanh jokingly said: "Siu is of the fire element, I am of the wood element. Don't worry, I will step back and "add fuel and light the fire" for you. We are all in our 60s and 70s, but on stage we are all in our 20s."

Besides guest Siu Black, Phuong Thanh's music night also features Bang Kieu, Dan Truong, Ha Le, Lan Nha... The female singer said she wants to collaborate with singers from many generations, bringing special performances to the audience.

At the age of 51, Phuong Thanh still feels full of energy with music.

17 years after the Mua show , Phuong Thanh held her second solo concert called Doa Hong Gai. For many years, Phuong Thanh only sang and acted in movies, rarely organizing live shows. The female singer revealed the reason was because she was afraid of losing money and not being able to sell tickets.

“I don’t know how to sell tickets, and I’m afraid of losing money every time I do a show. This time, someone took care of everything, so I’m bold enough to meet the audience again,” she said.

When asked why she chose Hanoi as the first location for her live concert instead of Ho Chi Minh City, Phuong Thanh said she considered it carefully because: "Tickets in Hanoi sell better than in Ho Chi Minh City, I'm not rich so I'm very scared."

However, the singer also said that after completing the concert in Hanoi in May, she will have more shows in Ha Long (Quang Ninh) and Ho Chi Minh City in the second half of this year.
