On April 28, at the Stieng ethnic cultural reserve in Bom Bo (Binh Minh commune, Bu Dang district, Binh Phuoc province), the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism (VH-TT-DL) of Binh Phuoc province organized a reconstruction of the new rice festival of the Stieng people.
The New Rice Festival is one of the unique cultural activities, imbued with tradition, with the meaning of thanking the gods for bringing a bountiful harvest, favorable weather, praying for a healthy, prosperous and happy new year. The festival is also an opportunity for people to gather together, sharing the joy of a good harvest.
Recreating the new rice festival of the Stieng people in Binh Phuoc
The new rice festival is recreated according to the rituals and customs of the Stieng people in Bom Bo village. The main ritual of the festival is to call the rice god and give thanks to the rice god, performed by the most prestigious village elder nominated by the community.
After the rice god worshiping ceremony, the village elders, Stieng boys and girls in traditional costumes join in the gong beat to thank the rice god... Here, the people place their trust in the rice god that he will give them strong arms and legs to produce a lot of rice, making the villagers rich, happy, and prosperous.

In order to create an atmosphere of solidarity, folk games imbued with the cultural identity of ethnic minorities were also organized such as carrying water back to the village, cooking bamboo rice, pounding rice, etc., attracting many Stieng youth to participate.
Village elder Dieu Len said that the new rice festival has an important meaning in the life of the Stieng people, helping future generations to be aware of preserving the beauty of the nation so that it will not be lost.

Deputy Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Binh Phuoc Nguyen Khac Vinh said that the restoration of the new rice festival aims to preserve and promote it as a tourism product, serving the needs of tourists to learn about culture and experience. The festival creates a source of documents to support research work for scientists in the province, gradually completing the dossier to propose the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism to recognize it as a National Intangible Cultural Heritage. In addition, the restored festival also contributes to promoting the Stieng Ethnic Cultural Conservation Area in Bom Bo village as well as the historical site of Bom Bo village.
