Women of Nam Dinh city join hands to protect the environment

Women's Union members of Nam Dinh city participate in cleaning the environment in the program "Green Sunday".

Promoting the role of women in environmental protection, every year, the City Women's Union has directed grassroots associations at all levels to promote propaganda and mobilize women to participate in environmental protection, integrating it into regular activities of clubs, branches, and organizations with many diverse and rich forms such as: Specialized talks, exchanges, and discussions on the occasion of International Women's Day (March 8), World Meteorological Day (March 23), World Environment Day (June 5), World Oceans Day (June 8), Vietnam Women's Union Founding Day (October 20)...; directing the Women's Unions of wards and communes to organize activities in response to the Earth Hour Campaign, the Month of Action for the Environment, the Vietnam Sea and Islands Week in 2024... Along with that, the City Women's Union directed the grassroots Women's Unions to propagate to all members the contents of the Law on Environmental Protection, Resolution No. 41-NQ/TW of the Politburo on "Environmental protection in the period of accelerating industrialization and modernization of the country", Resolution No. 24-NQ/TW on "Proactively responding to climate change, strengthening management of natural resources and environment"...

The City Women's Union also coordinates with agencies and units to organize training courses for officials and members to raise awareness about clean water and environmental sanitation, disseminate techniques and technologies on environmental protection, manage and rationally use natural resources; launch campaigns to clean up village roads and alleys; classify waste at home, limit the use of plastic bags; collect pesticide containers; say no to single-use plastic products, use biodegradable, reusable, environmentally friendly products to replace plastic bags and products that are difficult to decompose; do not burn straw, do not litter in rivers, canals, alleys; plant flowers, trees, build hygienic toilets, etc. In 2024, the City Women's Union organized 28 communication sessions to 2,986 members on environmental protection and climate change response. The City Women's Union also directed the Tran Hung Dao Ward Women's Union to coordinate in organizing a training conference on classifying household waste at source, and presented 10 two-compartment trash bins to ward women's union members participating in the model of classifying household waste at source.

One of the outstanding environmental protection activities of the City Women's Union is to widely launch the movement "Women of Nam Dinh City participate in building advanced, exemplary new rural areas and civilized urban areas", associated with the criteria of the campaign "Building families of 5 no, 3 clean". Accordingly, each Union base selects tasks and deploys specific activities to implement such as: Building models of self-managed women's routes; classifying waste in daily life; collecting used pesticide packaging; women using plastic baskets to go to the market, limiting the use of plastic bags; participating in cleaning village roads and alleys; actively participating in water resource protection activities; planting and caring for flowers, trees... In addition, the Women's Union at all levels promoted women's union members to participate in the contest "Typical and creative works and tasks of Nam Dinh women participating in building advanced, model new rural areas and civilized urban areas in the period of 2022-2026" organized by the Provincial Women's Union. Also in 2024, the Women's Union at all levels organized more than 1,000 street cleaning sessions in residential areas; mobilized households to implement measures to classify waste right at home, dump waste on time, in the right place; planted 1,600 trees and 3km of flower roads.

Along with propaganda activities and joining hands to protect the environment, the Women's Union at all levels of Nam Dinh city also supports branches in building and installing signs on "Self-management of environmental sanitation" routes; maintaining "Green Sunday" activities; Newly established practical environmental protection models, attracting a large number of members to participate, highly appreciated by local Party committees and authorities such as: "Women's Association of 5 no's, 3 clean's participating in building new rural areas, civilized urban areas", "Women with civilized urban lifestyle", "Confident, self-respecting, honest and responsible women, building civilized urban areas", "Roads managed by women", "Flower routes", "Women's groups linking up to produce safe vegetables", "Women's groups collecting waste and self-managing environmental protection", "Women's groups linking up to grow flowers", "Women's Association against plastic waste for environmental protection", "Women's Association of waste classification and treatment - environmental protection", "Women's Association of 5 no's, 3 clean's"... Currently, the whole city has 130/185 branches building and maintaining effective activities of plastic waste collection models to raise funds to visit and give gifts to members' families in difficult circumstances and those suffering from serious illnesses. In addition, the Women's Union at all levels has also been entrusted with the Social Policy Bank to implement support activities for hundreds of households to borrow capital to build clean water facilities and hygienic toilets. Specifically, implementing the "Revolving Fund" project program for household sanitation facilities, the City Women's Union coordinated with the Provincial Women's Union Project Management Board to appraise documents and disburse loans to member households for the purpose of building hygienic toilets, contributing to the implementation of the criteria for the environment to build advanced and exemplary new rural areas. Up to now, the Nam Dinh City Women's Union is managing over 1.8 billion VND of the Revolving Fund for 422 members to borrow capital.

Through environmental protection activities launched by the Nam Dinh City Women's Union, there have been changes in awareness and actions for the environment among female members in particular and all classes of people in general. In the coming time, the City Women's Union will continue to strengthen environmental protection work in conjunction with emulation movements and tasks of the Union; promote propaganda on clean water and environmental sanitation issues so that members can improve their legal knowledge, awareness and responsibility for protecting, preserving and regenerating the environment; effectively carry out movements and campaigns such as "Building a family of 5 no's and 3 clean's", "Women join hands to build advanced, exemplary new rural areas and civilized urban areas", "Building a prosperous, progressive, happy and civilized family"...; Building models of environmental sanitation, projects to build hygienic toilets... Thereby, contributing to raising awareness and responsibility of the community to join hands in protecting the environment, building an increasingly bright - green - clean - beautiful city.
