The South China Morning Post reported today, March 9, that a Thai pilot has been hailed as a "hero" and has become the focus of attention on Chinese social media in recent days, after leaving the cockpit mid-flight to deliver a baby for a passenger.
The pilot is Mr. Jakarin Sararnrakskul, a Thai national with 18 years of flying experience. He often flies VietJet flights from Taipei (Taiwan) to Bangkok (Thailand). During the flight on February 23, a passenger went into labor and he delivered the baby.

It is unclear whether the woman informed the crew of her condition before boarding the plane. While at an altitude of thousands of meters, flight attendants discovered that she was showing signs of labor and sitting in the toilet, and they immediately informed the pilot, Jakarin.
The pilot knew that returning the plane to its departure point or landing at another airport would be too late for the woman, so he handed over the pilot's duties to the co-pilot and left the cockpit to assist.
Despite having never delivered a baby before, the father of one remained calm throughout the delivery. Details of the challenges Mr Jakarin faced while delivering the baby boy have not been revealed, but he did deliver the baby boy safely.
The child was nicknamed "Sky baby" by the crew.
Afterwards, with the support of medical staff on duty at Suvarnabhumi International Airport in Bangkok, both mother and child were brought to the hospital safely and healthily.
Pilot Jakarin shared a photo of himself holding the baby on his personal page with the caption: "I have been a pilot for 18 years. I just helped a newborn baby on a plane."
When asked how he felt about this unexpected experience, the pilot said he was very proud: "For the rest of his life, the boy will be able to tell people that he was born in the air."
