The Ministry of Transport has just issued a document responding to the petition of voters of Ba Ria - Vung Tau province regarding the early implementation of upgrading and expanding Con Dao airport.

Accordingly, local voters reported that currently, people and tourists are facing many difficulties in traveling between Con Dao and the mainland. Voters hope to soon implement the project to upgrade and expand Con Dao airport.

“While waiting for the upgrading and expansion of Con Dao airport, we propose solutions to encourage businesses and companies to invest and exploit the Con Dao - Saigon and Con Dao - Can Tho routes so that the current monopoly situation no longer exists, thereby reducing difficulties and meeting the travel needs of people and tourists,” voters of Ba Ria - Vung Tau province proposed.

Responding to the above content, the Ministry of Transport said that it had approved the investment policy for the project to renovate and upgrade the runway and taxiway of Con Dao airport on October 14 and would agree on the investment plan in the same month.

Currently, due to limited infrastructure, Con Dao airport can only receive small aircraft, so operations to Con Dao are somewhat limited.

In particular, after Bamboo Airways stopped operating the Hanoi - Con Dao route, currently only Vietnam Airlines and VASCO are using ATR72 aircraft to operate the route connecting Con Dao - Ho Chi Minh City and Con Dao - Can Tho.

"The Ministry encourages other airlines to seek aircraft types suitable for Con Dao airport infrastructure to better meet people's travel needs," the Ministry of Transport informed.
