The recess time of students at Khanh Nhac A Primary School (Yen Khanh) becomes more meaningful when many students come to the Green Library corner to read their favorite books. Despite the noise and laughter throughout the schoolyard, for children who have a passion for reading, the pages of books always have their own appeal.
To Gia Hy, a student of class 5B, said: Every day when I go to school, I really like spaces like the classroom library corner, the green library, the friendly library to be able to explore and learn a wide range of knowledge. I often look for books that are age-appropriate, especially books that explore science, life skills, etc.
At Khanh Nhac A Primary School, realizing the importance of reading culture in the school environment, the school's Board of Directors has focused on building library models, encouraging and creating an environment for students to participate in reading, helping each student expand their knowledge, develop their thinking, improve and develop soft skills and communication skills.
Library reading sessions, recesses, and extracurricular activities organized and maintained effectively by the school have helped spread the reading movement widely, contributing to promoting the learning and training movement among students.
Every year, the school also focuses on investing in adding more books, enriching the school libraries; at the same time, seeking support and sponsorship from organizations, individuals, and parents to have more sources of books.
The school has an Internet connection so that from the TVs in the classrooms, students can find age-appropriate books to read in the electronic environment, through the cloud library; and rotate books between classes...
Ms. Nguyen Thi Dan Huyen, Principal of the school, said: The effectiveness of developing and spreading reading culture in schools has contributed to improving educational outcomes as well as attracting a large number of students to participate in playgrounds, competitions, and experiential activities. In the 2023-2024 school year, the school had 1 student win the encouragement prize in the Provincial Reading Culture Ambassador Contest; 3 products were selected and 1 product won the encouragement prize in the Provincial Youth, Adolescent, and Children's Creativity Contest; playgrounds such as Young Champion and Vietnamese Champion were also actively participated in by students.
Last school year, Khanh Nhac A Primary School had 43 students winning provincial prizes; 414 students winning national prizes and 3 students winning international prizes. The school was awarded a certificate of merit by the Ministry of Education and Training for its many innovations and creativity in teaching and learning, and is the leading primary school in Yen Khanh district.
Along with the role of the education and training system in guiding and organizing reading promotion activities for cadres, teachers, students, and trainees, the development of a reading culture to promote lifelong learning has also received the participation and support of many groups and individuals who are passionate and responsible for reading culture.
Over the years, family and clan bookcases established in localities in the province have contributed significantly to the early formation and sustainable maintenance of children's reading habits, arousing the spirit of love for reading, valuing knowledge, and stimulating the spirit of self-reading and self-study.
Many family and clan bookcases are preserving collections of valuable and rare documents; some bookcases have expanded into reading spaces serving the community, together with the network of reading spaces, grassroots reading rooms have become a link in the library system directly serving the people; reading promotion activities suitable for this type when implemented are well received by the community and attract the participation of many classes of people.
